Donavan Monroe.

The announcement completes the 2011/12 Hawks contracted roster. Donavan recently completed his senior year with the College of Charleston averaging 12.4 points and 2.6 assists per game in just over 33 minutes per game.

Has pretty good scoring percentages and low averages. Must have been second/third scoring option. Little worries about his 2.3 assists per 33 mins, but I'm hoping his team mates are rubbish

He was described as the heart and soul of his college team, that sort of thing would sit well with Gordie, he is obviously a guy happy to do whatever the team needs.

Looks like the Hawks have sacrificed a bit at PG for a bit more down low with Catron. They showed in 2010 they can succeed without a star PG so we will see how they go - Gordie's system is a good place for rookie imports to be.

Sharing a backcourt with a gunner like Andrew Gouldelock might have influenced his scoring numbers.

Keep in mind the Hawks went from the GF to missing the playoffs last season with Gary Ervin.

Weren't they on the way to the Grand Final until Ervin got injured?

They had a heap of injuries, but Sav's injury was the biggest one, they started losing when he went down and started winning again when he came back.

Depending on your definition of MVP, Saville could well have been it last season. Their massive losing streak coincided with him being out injured and they would have comfortably made the playoffs had he stayed healthy. Really is a key player even if the stats don't always show it.
