No PG import for either team. Cairns without Loughton. Dowdell and Hill having an early impact. Edit: no Campbell for the Hawks.

Catron scores 10 points in the third quarter as Wollongong win it 12-8, ouch. Cairns by 1 early in the fourth.

Catron attempts a game winner that Crosswhite blocks, Davidson recovers the ball and scores with 0:01 left and Wollongong win 57-55. Brad Hill 16p at 43% and 7r, Catron with 19p at 42% and Davidson 10p at 83% and 9r.

Wollongong shot 39% to 35%, Cairns won the boards 40-31.

'Gong with the win, appears Crosswhite blocked Catron but Davidson snagged it and hit a 2 point shot with 1 sec left.

Sorry, Cairns fans might be interested in Andrew Warren, 9p on 40% and 8r. 1/5 3p but both teams shot 7/37 between them.

Hawks snatch it in the end. Catron with 19 (8/19 FG).

Hill with 16 (6/14 FG) to lead the Taipans.

Woeful shooting by both teams:

22/62 (35%) Field Goals 24/61 (39%)
4/20 (20%) 3 Points 3/17 (18%)
7/11 (64%) Free Throws 6/13 (46%)

The first game of the day has been played here at Southport School with the Wollongong Hawks taking out a very dire encounter 55-53.

Cairns looked like they had the game won in the final minutes but some nice shooting and execution down the stretch got the Hawks home. Cairns looked like they weren't real happy with the officiating with Aaron Fearne throwing his marker at the back wall at one stage.

Joevan Catron (19pts on 8/19 shooting) looked pretty good during the game with some amazing crossovers and jump shots as well as some nice post moves around the basket. Dont get this guy confused though, he is not a guard by any stretch of the imagination but he does have handles!

Drew Warren for the Taipans has a very smooth stroke but only finished 4 of 10 shooting (1 of 5 from deep). He looks like he can fill it up in bunches. Brad Hill looked great going to the hoop hard and then knocking down the open 3 ball - he led the Snakes with 16 points.

Cairns import point guard, Jamar Wilson was a DNP and the Hawks Matt Campbell was announced as assistant coach although he did suit up.

The game was played at such a low level that Cairns almost had more turnovers than field goals... who would want to see 8 more minutes of that? (*cough* Daniel Eade *cough*)

Catron is working at about a point a minute this preseason. Played 22 minutes, scored 19. Played about 22 minutes in the Sixers double header the other week for 23 points.
He put up 19 shots in 22 minutes last night. That's pretty extreme. Don't think I saw a box score for the Sixers games.
Have to wonder why he's only had 40 odd minutes in the 3 matches if he's been filling up the scoreboard so much. Is he going to be a Carlos Powell who can score 50 and the team still gets easily beaten? They seem to be winning anyway, but having someone score so much and not getting many minutes raises a few questions.

He's a big guy, he might need a rest! McLeod might be spreading minutes in the pre-season. His defence might be average.
