Sunshine Coast Challenge - Finals Day

Finals day at the Sunshine Coast Challenge.

After being beaten by the Sixers yesterday, Sydney still managed to qualify for the finals v the invincible looking Perth. Perth were the only team to record two wins from their two games, both looked very comfortable.

The only team to lose two from two was Cairns, meaning every other team had a 1-1 record and had to be split by percentage.

Games today appear to be:

Melbourne (7th) v Townsville (8th) - game in progress
Wollongong (5th) v Sixers (6th) - 2:00 pm
Gold Coast (3rd) v New Zealand (4th) - 4:00 pm
Cairns (9th) v Qld All Stars - 6:00 pm
Melbourne (1st) v Sydney (2nd) - 8:00 pm

Mills after a difficult first up game against Perth has been playing excellently in this game - 10 first quarter points. Seems to have been shooting the three pointer very well at 50% in this competition - wish he could have done that for the Boomers!

Melbourne comfortably win the playoff for 7th with an 89-66 win. Sixers up next.

For interest, Mills' stats for the competition were:

Min/g: 28:33
Pts/g: 16.7
FG: 17/39 (43.5%)
3pFG: 12/25 (48%)
FT: 4/8 (50%)
Rb/g: 3.3 (interestingly, 10 in one game and 0 in the other two!)
As/g: 0.66
TO/g: 4
St/g: 1
Bl/g: 0.33
F /g: 0.66
FO/g: 2.33

I am a big Mills fan, but those assist to turnover stats are extremely disappointing. 0.66 per game!

Mills plays more like an SG than a PG, and frankly may have to in that Tigers team as he is probably their most potent offensive player (with Trigger). And with no Burston in the middle, Trigger has to fight with all of the opposing bigs.

Sixers have a 27-15 lead early in the second period. Hawks appear to be turning it over a lot. Sixers also just gathered in five offensive rebounds in the last minute. Not sure that the Hawks are really with it.

In the second game of this final day in the Sunshine State Challenge, Adelaide are taking on Wollongong.

Half time - Adelaide 45 Hawks 32

Adelaide have really looked good so far - DJ started really well but then picked up 2 fouls and sat for a while. Weigh & Ng were stroking it early and the whole 36er team were crashing the glass getting a heap of extra possessions.

Chris Warren has been very good in the 2 games I have seen him play so far, quick, decisive, good shot selection and good passing.

Herbert's outside shot is not dropping in the tournament and Creek is struggling a bit too.

For the Hawks, Demos & Martin have done very well in the absence of their import PG. Catron has been quiet so far too.

Completely different list, different coaches, different everything. Same third quarter fade out. What is it, the clothes?

Thanks DJ Rod. I did have a laugh though, when they had just scored 100 points and were close to the highest scoring team in the comp even without Bruton and being together with Jackson and Corletto only a few days, you say they need more of a scorer for an import!!

Holmes was up there over the weekend. I wonder if Townsville spoke to him?

Bad news for Rusty. Career is probably over now.

Holmes and Mottram would be at the top of their list to replace him.

There were 36ers team tryouts. Mottram left hurriedly after part of the first one. Injured I think.
(Masunda came in daily looking like Mills)

Anyways , it's been interesting following livestats
like Aaron Bruces and others.
Mostly , I think about Wade Helliwell and bit of telly would've been good.

KingJames - His hair was tied in a bun , nevertheless
he began to train in a most meaningful way
destroying Williamson , who had to be shifted
rejecting Johnson and dunking at the other end
while Johnson looked a little confused.
Helliwell's little stint stimulated the coterie into enough noise to simulate a crowd.
"Well , what have we here ! " Batkovic exclaimed ,
half-curious and half joyful.
She was as smitten with him as anyone and tied her hair in a bun , the same way.
