U18 Div 3 Double Bye and Practise Matches

South Adelaide 6 has withdrawn from the Under 18 Boys Division 3 Group D competition.

This leaves this competition with 4 remaining teams and a double bye.

With the agreement of all clubs involved, a practice match has been scheduled between the two "bye" teams for each of the remaining three rounds.

CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN A DOUBLE BYE AND WHAT ARE PRACTISE MATCHES DOING IN A DISTRICT COMPETITION ?

If there were five teams previously, one always had a bye. Then, given an arranged schedule and a withdrawn team, another team also gets a bye per round. Rather than both of those teams sitting idle, they are electing to scrimmage and improve their games. Is that too obvious to be the answer? Am I missing something?

the schedule for the first 5 rounds was drawn up - in order to keep with that and not mess everyone around - BSA probably dont change the set draw.

if a team pulls out a double bye is rostered - the practice game is so they still get a game but the result is not official in the phase records - probably means players can play outside the bylaws to some extent - clubs may still be working on numbers etc

No, just means players and parents are getting sick to death of Summer Comp that has been a waste of time with Div 3 and lower in most cases missing 20% of the time to play ( in a 5 team phase you get a bye every phase) and kids thinking that is aint worth playing for no chance to play finals ?

well ever since bsa started all this stupid phase stuff, it's all gone down hill, so don't complain about these double byes... get rid of the phases first and then complain

anon if 3 byes over a summer season makes you unhappy over basketball - anything will.

pro/rel has created the happiest teams i have dealt with - the kids get even games and it has led to closer results over the full year.

so you get 3 byes over summer ! - but the games you play during pro/rel are even - rather have that than 10 x 50 point losses that the system supported prior - which are more morale destroying.

Good points made in all your posts CP. The pro/rel process is great for juniors and sets them up for a competitive winter season.
