Patty Mills not returning to NBA???

Read this today on Blazers edge.........is this completely true??

http://www.blazersedge.com/2011/12/1/2603645/blazers-pg-situation#comments

"Everybody's talking about how how badly we need to sign a backup PF or backup C, but what about the PG spot?

We're extremely thin with Felton starting and no solid backup. Our 2nd most experience PG is Armon Johnson. Besides that, Nolan Smith can play a little point, but that wasn't his natural position in college, so how could we expect him to play PG as a rookie in the NBA? Elliot Williams has less experience than anybody. And Patty Mills won't be returning since he's locked into his Chinese deal.

PG looks like a major problem for this team. I don't see much potential in the list of free agents given our salary situation."

No NBA player who signed in china is allowed to return (ie break the contract) to play until late March. It was in their contract that they would not receive an NBA out clause and FIBA will not grant them a clearance.

Further to this off the NBA site

"Wilson Chandler, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith, Aaron Brooks. All in China without opt-out clause to return as soon as the labor dispute was settled. Unless teams there decide to release them, they players are locked in."

Which obviously includes Mills

Teams can cut their NBA imports, I heard JR Smith is close (if not already) to being cut for all the wrong reasons.
I guess if their CBA team wanted to they could cut them out of good will, but why would they really? Players knew what they were getting into when they signed the deals.

Keep on mind the Chinese league finishes before the NBA reg season, chances are most of these guys will get picked up post Chinese season. Injuries will be common this season with high game volume...

Haha JR Smith, they should make a movie about his experience and what he has had to do to annoy his team to the point where they sack him. It would be a classic fish out of water/ clash of cultures story.

if mills hasnt got an out clause he is an idiot. its the perfect opportunity for him to get an nba back up point spot

Yep he's locked in. The lockout turned around pretty quick which was not expected considering the likelihood of court cases etc. Moneywise he's no worse off being in China, just a shame there was a nice opportunity there for him in Portland. It does look good on his resume though to say he's had success in college and 2 pro leagues and has had some success at NBA and Olympic level.

I just posted this in the Euro thread:

Xinjiang defeated Tianjin 121-108 in the Chinese NBL.
Mills started and scored a game-high 42 points on 17/27 shooting (8/10 3PT) to go with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and no turnovers in 47 minutes.

That'll boost his average! 8/10 from downtown is pretty good shooting in anyone's book!

Mills is now averaging 30.5ppg - still 3rd in the league behind Lester Hudson (33.7ppg) and Wilson Chandler (32.0ppg).

I don't know if mills was in consideration for an nba spot just yet
he'd be better off killing it in the china league or europe and then pushing for a late season contract with an nba side

besides 1.5 mil and considerable playing time is better than nba bench warmer
