Parks community center redevelopment.

The Messenger states that the parks community center will not get funding of 20m for a new sports arena, but it is still a possibility. Now if this isn't an intensive for Basketball SA to start negotiating with the government & at the same time with Magic/Warriors then what is?The stimulus packages got away from us ,but tell me when will the Western burbs get another Chance like this?

Incentive was the word targeted above.

"not" then "a possibility" ? I am confused.

Would be great if it happened - that sort of money would bring a decent venue.

how many courts - what other sort of facilities ?

On a side note. What a ridiculous wasted opportunity the stimulus was for basketball, the Federal Government and schools in the area. So dissapointing with all the parties. A revenue stream could have been generated back into the schools, costs lowered for the sport, easier access to venues for students, and more facilities for district clubs.

As it stands you now have a few training facilities, if the schools are willing to lease out their publicly funded venues to community clubs....

A strong community showing for the project(protests/meetings/lobbying) could easily put the original plan back to the drawing board.People power would have a lot more wind in their sails if basketball SA got behind this once in a generation chance.Even West could use the venue for games & hold training's at the port if more convenient to players. Surely players would rather play in a brand new venue.

The proposed budget was 25 million for a new sports facility with 3 courts + a new pool.

Which they will want to run for community sport which may or may not include them running local social basketball competitions.

If the redevelopment goes ahead the council will not be running the centre, it will be contracted to a group like the YMCA or leisure Co. There will not be any room for club basketball, maybe some social ball but there has been very little interest in basketball at the centre. I doubt that you will see basketball anywhere near the parks anytime soon
