Tigers challenge video replay ruling

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/basketball/tigers-challenge-video-replay-ruling-20111215-1ows0.html

Anyone got a youtube link to the final shot? I'd love to see this done in a proper frame by frame type thing.

Was the 3 pointer given by the refs?

nope, the officials canceled the basket because the red light was flashing on the backboard.

Does the game end when the siren sounds or when the game clock get's to 0?

I think it is when the siren sounds which means even if the clock was showing 0.3 when the siren sounded then it would be game over?

Perhaps more time should have been taken to review the clip and the officials should have considered counting it as a 2 pointer because his foot was on the line anway.

This way the game would have gone to OT and both teams have the chance to win in OT - Fair result

I believe if it's that close then the points should conunt but that's just my opinion

LOL at Tigers. Clear as day Ubaka did not get the shot off. If Ubaka actually passed the ball in the last 4 minutes of the game (instead of trying to take the whole Cairns team on) Tigers would have won easy.

Shot definitely shouldnt have counted.

Would there have been half a second left on the clock then? Yeah but would the tigers have got a steal and then a shot off? No

Case closed

Alexkrad what are you talking about a steal for?

The shot was released from the hand just after the light showed on the board but Tigers claim there was still 0.3 seconds on the game clock.

It's a question of rule

Nothing to do with having time to steal the ball

Can anyone confirm the rule?

Know your team?, he mentioned a steal because the Taipans would have got the ball on the baseline as a result of the shot clock violation. With 0.3 seconds left there would be no way the Tigers would have been able to steal the ball and get a shot off. Therefore, the fact that there was 0.3 seconds left on the clock and the Tigers are complaining about it is just ridiculous and their complaint should get tossed out by the NBL like a Diamon Simpson block!

Nah, Tornado there is absolutely no mention of the shot clock.

The officials rule that the game clock had expired so canceled the basket.

They made this decision based on the flashing red light on the back board flashing.

Coach Gleeson is saying that after more careful review of the video it is evident that the game clock had 0.3 seconds remaining which means that the shot should have counted which means the scores would have been level for a two or Tigers up by a point if counted as a three.

If the Taipans had the ball at the end line with 0.3 seconds left then they would only be able to score on a tip dunk because the rules do not allow for a catch & shoot with 0.3 left

Hence why I said that the best thing for the game would have been to count the points as a two pointer with his toe on the line and go to OT if Cairns could not throw a full length court pass for a tip dunk of course......

I think perhaps some people just hate the Tigers but the questio remains:

Is this a fair complaint?

if the ball is still in the shooters hands when the shot clock goes off, which it was, the shot does not count, no matter how much time is left on the game clock.

it shouldnt have counted as a 2 or 3 because it was a shot clock violation.

SO

the refs should have gave cairns posesion with .3 left and then tigers would have had to get a steal and shot off in that time to get the win

would not have happened.

game over.

FYI - game ends when the siren sounds - not when the clock shows 0.0
