Judge orders Blaze to pay out Joyce's contract

The Gold Coast Blaze basketall club has been orderd to pay it former coach Brendan Joyce more than $300,000 in damages for breach of contract.

Justice Lyons today gave judgment for Joyce at $310,000 but the final figure will not be known until costs and interest are calculated at a later date.

(For the curious who don't yet know, the "j0yce" thing is an automated process. Brendan, for some reason, insists that it's illegal for me to post about this legal case on the forum, link to the articles, etc. He also thinks people should be stopped from referencing his son as "SoJ".)

FWIW, I think Joyce was right to pursue the Blaze on this and fair to win based on public information. Had a four year contract. Upped and moved. Why wouldn't the Blaze have options or KPIs built into the contract!?

isn't tomlinsons $ all inherited from canada ? didnt earn it fair & square in making intelligent business decisions. thats why hes paying out joyce, signed wright to a 3 year deal which was a risk just after cutting a coach & now just resigned the same underperforming one for the past 3 years. yea smart man that tomlinson. making business decisions on friendships like so many other unprofessional clowns in bball

FWIW Owen T is just a figurehead these days and it's the sons who are keeping the club afloat as Owen ran out of funds to throw in quite a while ago

With interest and costs this will easily be a 500k plus result - not good at all for the club

sounds like the kids got their bad business knowledge from their dad. seem to spend more time taking photos of themselves out with the boys while written off in nightclubs. then cry poor to the nbl like their dad a couple of years ago

Its so not like the Blaze canr afford to pay out the full quota. Word has it, the blaze do everything foe their supporters, something other clubs dont do.

Bit of a worrying trend when ya only have 2 plays with double digit scores with 05:46 to go in the last.

I could say, time for a new coach however maybe its time for the coach to give a game away and let is assistants do the hard yards. but if we win, take the credit by all means.

the bmw wright is parading on facebook, was that a sweetener from the tomlinsons ? hope he isnt the one spreading around the stories that the bris bids were intrested in signing him. heaps of reasons not to more like it from all accounts. nobody was near signing ANY coach anyway given how much work is still to be done even after a licence is granted.
