NBL Attendance - Round 12

Well, we're theoretically half way through the 2011-12 NBL season and Round 12 didn't really pull any surprises either attendance wise or on court.....unless you count the Wildcats vs Breakers game. Kinda expected a Perth win, just not a 24 point hiding. With all games on Friday, just 2 days out from Christmas crowds weren't bad really.

Tigers vs Taipans - 3,217 @ SNC (92%)
Kings vs Crocodiles - 5,435 @ SEC (52%)
Blaze vs 36ers - 3,280 @ GCCC (62%)
Wildcats vs Breakers - 4,400 @ CS (98%)

Not a sellout at the league's smallest venue but considering the Tigers recent form and again the Christmas factor, not a bad crowd at the State Netball Centre.

After Sydney's last few home games and the less than healthy crowds, it was good to see almost 5,500 to the game against the Crocs. The smallest crowd/capacity percentage of the round and the biggest crowd by over a thousand. Not bad IMO and well done to the Kings fans who showed.

Not the Blaze's smallest home crowd of the season (that was strangely against fellow Qld team Townsville) and only slightly smaller than their season average at The Furnace (discounting the game in Brisbane) which is 3,310. Not really better or worse.....but not Wollongong worse.

Despite the failure of just 100 people not to attend the top of the table clash, it was yet another good crowd in Perth and like the sad events on the GC, the home team turned it on for their fans. And on that, well done to the Wildcats, so far this year they are the only team to not draw less than 4,000 to a home game. Well, at least they haven't drawn under "approximately" 4,000.

So at the season's half way point only Melbourne have posted capacity crowds (hardly surprising in the NBL's smallest venue). Cairns crowds continue to embarrass bigger markets. Adelaide continues to (save the Hawks game) draw well despite a less than satisfactory team performance while the NBL should be concerned with continuing small crowds in Townsville, the Gold Coast and especially Wollongong. And TBH despite posting 2 capacity crowds, I'd be concerned that the Tigers aren't drawing closer to 3,500 every home game. Melbourne is the league's 2nd biggest market yet they struggle to draw a home crowd.

fwiw, its good to discount the game in bris for blaze attendance bc only around 50 people in bris went. the rest were blaze season ticket holders who tomlinson bussed up and good on him for doing so in that regard. flanagan likes to inflate crowd figures, even when pressed for the correct figure (instead of the media figure) by one on the bbi bid, all he could do was frown. lol. i reckon that guys days are numbered. cant tell the truth or be a stand up kind of guy about much at all by reports from sources that have dealt with him.

Nice crowd from the Kings. See what happens when games are scheduled on the nights where it's attractive for fans to attend! Stick them on Friday and Saturday nights and the crowds will grow. Get a few more wins and play an attractive brand of ball and there's no reason they can't get 6000 on a regular basis.

4400 at the wildcats for the top of table match against the breakers is impressive as that game was sold out a few days before the game was being played. The standing room was packed, and I'd say it was season ticket holders unable to attend that kept it from being 100% capacity. FWIW, the Perth Glory also played the same night against a top side and only got 2000 more people than the Wildcats. nib stadium was about 75% empty. The demand is def with the Wildcats. Just wish the media would recognize that.

How many people fit in standing room?

If you google the question, various websites say standing room is around 500, but I would've thought it's around 150-200 just by looking at the crowd. Guess it depends how many can squeeze in, and how many the Cats will allow.
