Blaze vs Tigers, Jan 21

Tigers down after two fairly low scoring quarters. Myron Allen is playing.

What would Seamus be thinking? Would Gleeson be feeling the pressure?

Allen had a nice debut judging by the stats (13 points and 8 assists); When he gets used to the Tigers system (most of the Tigers players still don't even know the system though lol), he could be a really good addition.

They lost the rebound count again tonight, 33-24.

I know they have missed Burston, but Gleeson and the Tigers should take responsibility for some really poor recruitment.

They have way too many players of the same mould: (same size and similar positions)

-Walker
-Greer
-Dorsey
-Lewis
-Rush

Tonight at the GC, the only "SG's" they have are Dillon (who is more of a combo guard).
Lewis is more of a 3 man, Shane McDonald is a PG and Myron Allen is a 6"0 PG.

Are you missing Corletto now Melbourne?

Impressive debut from Allen given he just arrived from the states today. He had some great assists and it looks as though he's going to make players around him better. At this early stage I'd say he's an upgrade on Ubaka.

Allen showed plenty. Laid off on D a few times but can play. 8 assists on debut after arriving that day is impressive.

He would've had over a dozen if his team mates could land some lay ups! Big guys like Rush, Burston, and Greer are soo frustrating to watch...

He looked good, but Deleon looked amazing early but has struggled since. A couple of older players have mentioned how teams put a lot more effort into scouting than they used to, so that can mean a player gets tested after a couple of weeks in the league.

What I like about Allen though is he is both strong and quick, ala Corey Williams, and that can be hard to guard even with good scouting.

The other thing was he and Burston had a great understanding. Heal or Rucker made the good point that he developed playing with Grace and is very smart at getting to open spots for a penetrating point guard.

Burston made a huge difference in that second half at both ends. The Tigers were down something like 23-11 in rebounding at half time and finished down only 36-30. They have definitely missed the big fella and he could be a key in the run home.

I agree that Burston makes a huge difference and if Allen continues on from this promising start the Tigers could make some noise by the end of the season. Trigger is also very good at finding the open spot so Allen could serve up plenty of easy looks for him as well. With Allen looking to have Homicide like penetration skills Gleeson may be ably to revert to many of the sets he ran in Townsville.

Burstons biggest problem in my opinion, is that he makes way too many unnecessary fouls. Its frustrating when we swipes at a guard that he would never be able to steal from anyway, would be better of just trying to contain him rather than get a steal.

I still think the Tigers are a guard short. They have replaced Corletto/Mills and Ubaka with Allen.

Allen looked good after just stepping off a plane that's for sure and easily could have had 14-16 assist if his team mates iht some easy buckets...

Tigers still a ball handler short and are also still, well just short!

They have macdonald who is more than capable in this league. U look at guys like cadee and teys playing for the blaze getting minutes. While Shane's on the pine up the other end.. All about opportunity, and macdonald will fill the void

McDonald is done with the tigers, he was filling in over school holidays because he's a fulltime teacher

Cadee is a very ordinary player. Why does Hammer talk him up as a future Boomer? Am i missing something?

MACDUB - have you forgotten that this was the model for the Tigers in the 80s & early 90s - a bunch of guys around 2m who could guard the bigs and the smalls, and have a size advantage over the smalls?

Cadee has been great this year, he is really developing into a good player.

are you for real - how many 18-19 yr olds are playing solid minutes in the nbl

Cadee is the brightest prospect on the blaze roster

in fact they should have just run with him and gibbo at the point and gone for a sg/sf import
