2012 U20 Victorian Men’s Team announced

Players Association

Lucas Barker Dandenong
Taylor Dyson Knox
Anthony Fisher Ballarat
Jarrod Fryar Ballarat
Venky Jois Dandenong
Owen Odigie AIS/Dandenong
Greg Page Diamond Valley
Dane Pineau Melbourne
Sean Preston Knox
Jayden Walsh Kilsyth

Does anyone know who are the guys to watch in this team? I know Owen Odigie played well for the Australian U19 team in last year's World Championships, and Taylor Dyson has represented Australia at U17 level. Any others worth keeping tabs on?

Just had a look at BA website and the draw is up for February U20 championships -

http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-4101-0-57627-0&a=COMPS

Also had a look at 2011 stats and noticed that Preston & Odigie were in the Vic U20 team that won last years championship. Obviously with players like Creek & Drmic these two didn't see a whole lot of court time, but both had pretty good U18 stats in 2010.
Page was in U18 Vic Metro in 2011 (8pts, 3rebs & 2assts) and Fisher was in U18 Country and finished with 10pts,10rebs & 3assts)

Your not surprised about BA website are you...lol...how they even get anything on there is amazing...for such a huge participation sport with Fulltime employees and their website is the main way they keep in contact with the general public and their own members (which we are in a default way)it is very disappointing

Fish is a 1 who can occasionally slide to the 2. Turned down an AIS scholarship to stay with Guy Molloy at Ballarat.

This team is obviously not on the same level or even close to the level we saw the Vic 2011 20s men play at but they do have some talent. Look out for Walsh from Kilsyth to have a good championships, first time at nationals but is an absolute beast.

Is Lucas Barker any relation to Curtis Barker who used to play at Dandenong?

Lucas has two older brothers currently playing Aussie rules but both played basketball earlier.

Jois more than held his own in SEABL last year. 6'7ish 4 man. Cant believe he wasnt awarded an AIS scholarship.

Jois was approached by AIS after winning SEABL Youth Player 2011 but is playing another year of SEABL with Dandenong Rangers before leaving in September to play college bball with EWU (also Daniel Hill - NSW). He also currently trains with Tigers when available.

Regarding: From what I know or have heard from others. Agreed, not at the same level as Drmic, Creek etc.

Mitchell Creek was awarded the Bob Staunton Medal last year and approached by 36's.

Venky Jois awarded the Bob Staunton Medal 2012 and approached by several NBL teams but has chosen the college basketball route for development (as per Drmic, Greenwood last year and Hill, Dyson this year).

Victoria won the gold again as per last year. Seems to me that on paper, talent is talent...

You don't have to have an AIS scholarship to get recognised - cream rises to the top in the end:-)
