Even better.
Southern Tigers win Under 20 men A grade at Eltham.
u/20....Dont want to rain on your parade, but was there any Vic teams playing?...most players are playing higher open competition or have hung up the boots on rep ball. But well done ,you can only beat who is there to play against
yeah u20s dont mean anything down here in Melbourne, don't know what it's like in Adelaide, but down here the top players don't even bother with it, that's what youth league or d-league is for
Melbourne 16 and 18 boys r good. Boys are v skilled and well coached. 20s does not have many good kids playing as they are in youth league

On the topic of Eltham/Dandenong - rumour has it that the South Australia referees that were over there were pretty disgraceful, and quite an embarrassment.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Apparently not.... apparently from all over. And not just on the court either
on the topic of SA teams, i was disappointed in the huge amount of bad habits on the teams and the lack of ball movement, one team had a tiny kid who held the ball for 30 secs regardless at a time and it was killing the team and was the reason they lost.
As for the SA refs, any body contact, regardless of whether it was legal (some were shellshocked and wouldn't call anything as well), was called, imo they struggled to cope with the physicality that VIC teams play with and any offensive moves that had a slight amount of complication, was instantly a travel, even if it wasn't.

the eltham trip is a development trip for junior referees, the group consisted of a few aba refs but a lot of junior saturday morning referees. if you noticed there was 4 SA refs on the A grade GFs, which most refereed well. the trip is also for a bit of fun for those that go and a good way to get back into the scheme of things as there has not been any basketball here for a while.

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!! someones bragging about Sturt being runners up, but no one wants to say which team, maybe they are embarressed to say coz they should have won and now its turned to bagging SA Umps, which by the way aren't very good but at the same time if you didn't have them there wouldn't be a game and we would have to find someone else to pick on
It was the Sturt Under 18 boys who lost to Melbourne in the final. Played tough throughout most of the game and where hot from outside but couldn't keep it going and Melbourne ran away with it.
As for the Under 20's, winning any tournament is a good effort regardless of who is on the floor but like what has been said, 20's isn't taken very seriously in Vic. And apparently the team Southern beat in final didn't have there to starting guards.

Well it certainly was not the Sturt U18 girls. They only won 2 games. C"ant wait for the defensive excuses.

Like missing 2 players;
And that they only lost to Dandenong by 1 point on a f/t.
Played well and showed that they wil be around the mark come May/June.

Well A61...not a bad reason...one of those girls having chronic injury and the other, potentially one of the best in her age group, but very unreliable. Both liabilities.
This age group no where near as strong as last seasons....., but have other Club's played all their trump cards?
I am not saying all...but a lot of VIC TEAMS that have made VC use this weekend as a more relaxed game...even court time and keeping some cards close to their chests.
One advantage VIC teams have is the chance to play quality opposition on a regular basis thus leading to the opportunity to improve.
I think that the improvement you see between now and the classic is quite marked
The Sturt U18 Boys did a great job in the final. Melbourne are a quality team with a couple of U17 Australian squad members.
The Sturt U18 Girls were reasonable in patches and won the 2 pool games they would have been expected to win. Both Melbourne and Dandenong are a level or two above the other 2 teams, and Sturt performed well against them both.
