NBL award nominations revealed

The players nominated for the Most Improved Player, Best Sixth Man, Rookie of the Year and Best Defensive Player awards have been announced. The eventual winners will be named at the 2012 iiNet Basketball Australia MVP awards dinner in Melbourne at Crown Casino next Monday night (26 March)

Each of the NBL's nine teams were able to nominate a maximum of two players from their own roster for each of those four award categories. In all, six players were nominated by their club for Rookie honours, 13 for Best Sixth Man, 13 for Best Defensive Player and 12 for Most Improved.

Voting for the award winners was conducted at the conclusion of the regular season, with the Head Coach, one Assistant Coach and one Captain from each team having the chance to cast 3-2-1 votes for their preferred choices. I will add my username for the second post of my double post.

And Patty Mills for rookie? Surely having played at least half the season should be a requirement?

I thought someone who had played professionally was disqualified from rookie of the year - two years in the NBA should disqualify you in any event - you aint no rookie!

DJ's improvement has been good but not successful.

Put that against Jacob Holmes this year that now sees his form from the start of the season have Townsville in the finals.

Ok I know he's an Aussie who before this year had never played in the NBL but if Patty Mills is a candidate for RotY then why can't imports who've never played here be eligible?

Imports like Diamon Simpson and Jerai Grant are every bit the NBL 'rookie' that Mills was so what's the difference??

What kind of awards need the clubs to nominate players. How hard is it for NBL to say ok here is the entrie list of registered players. Right who do we think should form the squad for the rights to ROTY -
6MOTY -
DPOY -
MIP -

ROTY could be based on the number of NBA games played.
That is the criteria for som eof the State Leagues anyway.
