36ERS 05/06 team

maher/hill
farley/defensive specialist/watson
holmes/nash
rychart/forman
cooper/back up 5/reesy/truslove??

If negotiations with willie dont work out then get a cheaper gaurd and pay a bit more at the 5 spot. Risks -watson is unproven at the next level, there will not be 20+shots available but i think he has wider abilities than his shooting. Back up 5 would need to be a bigger body as cooper is not. Nashy is an injury risk but there is a bit of flexibility around the 3 spot with Jake, dusty and oscar capable of playing big minutes. Will Brett be at risk of injury as he gets older?
Anybody see any serious other possibilities?

There is an import called Jared Swanson who plays for the warnambol seahawks. He averages 15 rebounds per game, 29 points/game and 3 assts. he can play. I was wondering if the 36er's look at the players playing in other states....???

Just announced on the news that the 36ERS have given Willie Farley a two week deadline to agree to terms or they will look for a new import.

If we didn't already have Hill in the line-up, I think Jye Watson would be a good option for the 36ERS, but I think they're more in need of a back-up PG (Jason and Darren both gone now) and I'm not sure if that's Hill's role.

Bottles, you wonder if sixers look at other states? How about other SA teams besides sturt, or even look at all.

Ng is taking the season off to concentrate on studying.

OK, imports, why not try and get Shawn Redhage cheap? He is young, energetic, would really fit in with the sixers, scraps hard, regulary racks up 30 or 40 points a game and 20 odd rebounds a game, that would free up more money to also find a good guard too, such as a brendan mann, would give the sixers a big and a guard.

who said every import had to be a superstar, dusty isnt a superstar, just a super scrapper, thats what makes him so effective.

Jared is 200cm. He's not overly tall for his position (4) but still manages great numbers. played for the University of North Dakota

Bulldog ..

Let's be clear about one thing .. DUSTY is far better than just a "super scrapper" as you put it.

There is no-one else in the league that has the mid-range game that he has. With Dusty's efforts at both ends i would not label him a scrapper just a workman.
He GETS it done. He does have some superstar qualities as he has shown when he lights up the opposition in the paint, the foul line or the 3pt line (occasionally)

As much as Willie was the 2nd place getter in the MVP Dusty was JUST as vital to the sixers, and IMO was unlucky to not poll better than he did.

Jared swanson is an American who played at a Div 3 school he is undersized and suits the ABA at best especially as an import, I seen him in the millicent comp. he is not an imports jock strap in the NBL.

Bulldog, then who starts as SG? Hill? Probably a year too early for that. Or if you chanced Jye Watson, you're giving up a bit of height and experience and not picking up a proven scorer which puts a lot of pressure on Holmes, Dusty and Maher to post 20 PPG each.

Plus then you have a glut of forwards (Dusty, Holmes, Forman, Nash, Redhage, etc).

If Willie doesn't come and this happened earlier, you could have used the money on a Bradtke (Cooper play backup and/or come on as PF), and use the import spot for someone cheap and unproven (Dusty was very cheap when he first played in the NBL, so it happens!).

Wethers and Franklin may not be signed and both are quality imports. I think Wethers is trying to break into the NBA, but not sure about Kavossy.

Yer I don't really think we need another forward as an import. If we did I would be recommending my main man Jamie Holmes down in Mount Gambier or like Bulldog said Shawn Redhage. But we really do have enough 3's and 4's in the team we need a 2 man or a centre. That again depends on what the sixers management are doing and if Reesy is going another round.

Hopefully Farley will stay but if he doesn't, it is going to put a lot of pressure on the 36ers to come up with an All Star type import.

No disrespect to a guy like Redhage whose stats at SEABL level are incredible but a budget import won't help.

A month ago when the big name Australians were still on the free agent list a guy like Redhage would have been a good pick up if we went the two for one option with Farley.

Now that the top free agents are gone, I'm with Panther and the second import would have to be either a Farley type scorer such as Wethers or alternatively a Centre (Rolan Roberts was a bit undersized but is he available?).

I still think Dusty needs help inside and the 36ers haven't addressed that during the off-season. However, a big man import will put a lot of pressure on Hill to perform immediately and Maher will need an injury free year.

An import that is available is the Crocs Rob Brown (who won the dunking comp last All*Star game).

I could think of worse players to sign.

What position would he play? Would get us back to that forward glut. IMO, any replacement for Willie, should he not take the offer, has to be a scoring guard, or forward that can get 15-20/game but also provide some height in the middle to help Cooper. Right now, even our PFs are pretty small compared to a Brannen or Stiff.

With the NBA getting younger and looking for athletes rather than smart players that have 4 years of college ball under their belts, I'm sure there are a lot of great players out there who will be able to contribute to the 36ers next season should Farley not return.

The disappointing thing if we were to lose Farley will be not just losing a show-man who can get you 30 on any night, but a guy who realistically might have stuck around for a few years and be part of a stable program.

I'd prefer that to signing a Chris Williams type one year wonder.

Wethers has no chance of an NBA contract, if Farley isn't coming back, throw money at the leading scorer, nice option!!

Franklin has to big a nose to be in a Sixers uniform, heck we are still recovering from Jerry Dennards good looks (insert fox whistle here!)
