U14 Nationals

I had a bit of a look around at the Norwood carnival and see that Nunawading basically thrashed all comers including out best team here in SA.

How strong are they in the Vic scene?

The teams that came over wouldn't have been the strongest, there are better teams still.
Vic will fill the top 8 spots at nationals and then upto the rest of Aust to battle out for the lower opsitions.
Just lucky that Vic are only allowed to enter 8 sides

Nunawading are 0 wins 4 losses, so probably won't even make the classic or nationals.

Joker is not even funny - specters are 3 wins and 1 loss so far in vjbl so a good chance for the team to get to nationals

Knox beat Nundawading for their one loss thus far, but Nundawading still hasn't played Melb so possibly won't make Nationals this year?? Think Dandenong from Vic will be the strongest team coming out of Vic.
Not many of the stronger Vic teams go to the Norwood tournament in U14s solely due to Nationals compaign.

Why dont they just have the Nationals in Melbourne each year if it's gonna be all Melbourne teams - would save alot of people $$$ having to travel to Perth. Aren't there any other good teams around Australia???

I find this a little bit sad that 12-13yr olds have this amount of focus on their lives.

Better than no attention at all I guess...........

strongest Vic teams are darren perry coached dandenong, Melb Tigers coached by Glenn Bines. then a fair gap down to the next rung teams that include Nunawading, Knox , Hawthorn, Mckinnon, maybe throw eltham and bullion in that group

rock - that is what is required to reach these levels.

it is no different to a lot of other activities - be academic, religious,

i dont think it is necessarily negative.

The coaching staff do a great job at not allowing the kids to worry about Nationals, and just to focus on the game at hand each week. All it takes is one loss and that could knock a team out of the Nationals hunt. I wouldn't count out clubs from other states though, Hills Hornets have been strong the past few years.

How can it be ok for kids this age to spend so much time at any one sport? Have just watched some of the carnival and the hours these kids have obviously put in - and the intensity of their yell-from-the-sidleines coaches - do not bode well. No wonder so many kids burn out.

Yeah spending heaps of time in sport rather than in front of the tv is really bad. I mean all the socialising that they do with frinds from other clubs as well as team mates is really bad. Surely they should not do something they love.As for those coaches that yell from the sideline,

As parents, it's great to see your children interested in any kind of sport - the facts are there - it keeps them fit, less time away from computers and tv's, stops boredom and they get to build networks with similar-minded kids. It's positive and DEFINITELY not a sad thing. Even parents establish friendships as they spend many hours at trainings, games, travelling and have a great time. It's all in your attitude - just saying......
