Any news of 36ers imports?

Any news of imports? or any other signings for that matter? how do they select imports? anyone heading over to NBA summer L?

Most teams don't announce imports until after they've wrapped up their local players. Shane Heal has just jumped the gun a little with signing an import so early. Usually imports aren't signed until late July at the earliest.

I'd like to see us go after Blake Ahearn from the DLeague.
Ridiculously good shooter, plays point guard, but is better suited as a 2 guard (ie. what we are after).
Had a temporary NBA contract with Utah at the end of the season but probably won't be renewed next season.
All-time points record holder for the DLeague (he's 27).
Set the record for consecutive free throws with 110. !!!!!!
Averaged 23.8 ppg, 5.1 apg and 2.6 rpg this season.
96.2% free throw shooter 227/236.
46.9% from the field.
40.9% from 3.
Hit double figures every game. 30+ 8 times. 20+ 29 times out of the 38 games, 19 on 3 others. 5+ assists 22 times.

Sounds good Hendo - too good. With those numbers, I doubt we can afford him!

sg with a good handle. must be able to score/ influence the game without controlling the ball (like gilchrist and deleon need to have the ball in their hands is exactly what we dont need).

must be decent to excellent defender with size ( no 5'10 ) 6'1- 6'4 ish. able to hold against stronger opponents as we are more physical than some leagues and they can suffer trying to defend some in our league trying to expose them.

decent to excellent 3 pt shooter. being able to add more range and stretch the floor helps with tall timber big red and dj, and weigh being a mid-range player and creek being a slasher type.

target that guy first and foremost then worry about 4/5 back-up guy and whether we go aussie for that or cheap import. ild like that guy to be a rebounding box out low post defender specialist.

Ahearn was signed by the Jazz late in the season so I dare say they intend to bring him in for training camp next season so you can all but rule a line through him.

I like the idea of Blake Ahearn, he is one i looked at his stats a while ago aswell and thought he would be good. Would be the perfect fit for what we are after.

Not worried about him being with the Jazz as mentioned he probably wont make the final roster, so if we can wait til after training camp and get in touch with his agent before hand to see if he is interested, would definatly be worth having a good crack at.

Would be great to get a couple of fringe NBA guys as imports, d-league only pays around 30k per season, so hopefully we can entice atleast one really good one like Blake Ahearn with around 100-150k.

Good one everybody. Brag about how good Ahearn is on this site where all the other clubs can get a sniff. How about you just email your suggestions confidentially to the club. Then if there is any merit in it, they can do their own investigations.

Ahearn has already turned down an NBL offer. He/or agent wants him to crack the NBA.

maybe someone should introduce him to simpson. the man that went straight to a rockets roster from our team.

i wonder if we are really doing enough to promote our league as a stepping stone. plenty of players have gone on to big big contracts. how many players have wasted themselves chasing a dream and cutting off a great place like spain or italy/ germany where they could live and get paid lots of money to play the sport they love. having d-league + nbl on your resume would be great on your resume as euro teams would love to see you can be successful outside of the cakewalk world of easyball d-league.

do you mean dairese gary?
6'1 93 kg ( 205 pounds)

14.1 pts 1.3 stl 5.5 as .337 3pt% new mexico 10/11

are you suggesting thats who they should look at???

hard to say how well he could do. had a knee injury. not a prolific scorer at college level although that doesnt matter if he is a very good defender that can stretch the offense. at least he doesnt look like a puny push-around which is the one thing i dont want this year.

I doubt very much Raheim Brown is training with the sixers. Never seen him in any photos taken at training. Sure someone would have said. Btw does anyone know if Raheim has played in the NBA? I know he has been on a couple teams lists but has he actually played? Reason I ask is he tells people he has played in the NBA but I can't find any stats that he has hit the court.

ahhh, everyone's favourite time of year. the "any import news" segment that carries on for months and months! next up is someone saying 'but other teams have their imports. there might not be any left!!!'

Anon, why are you hating on Rahiem Brown? I have only ever heard him say that he was on the summer squad, which is a fact. Don't mince one's words and then make it public in an attempt to embarass someone. How many NBA summer teams have you made?

Haven't seen Brown around .
Saw Ballinger and Holmes (and Angela Marino) shooting around this morning . Someone looked a bit like DeVries , don't think it was actually him though.
Sounded like a bitta training this afternoon , I think,
from what Marty was sayen to Ballinger and Holmes.

Brown is an absolute champ of a bloke. He is down to earth and will speak with anyone. The guy is approachable and would be an asset as an Aussie! Let's not hate on someone that we could definately use. I say make him a sixer(if he's an Aussie)

IMO, if Brown wanted to play for the Sixers, he could've organised his own insurance (or gone without) and asked to trial/train with the club in recent years when they were struggling to settle on imports. Or dominate some ABL to show his stuff.

Otherwise, assuming he's not actually been playing while he's here, focus on active players.

Maybe Elijah Millsap he is averaging 23 points 6 boards and 2 assists per game, he is also 6 foot 6 and a decent defender. I'm not sure about his 3 point shot though. Also Blake Ahearn looks like to be NBL MVP quality, if you are the all-time Dleague points holder and you are only 27, you can definitely have a spot on the 6ers.

Millsap appears to have good credentials but looks to be more of a SF/PF not too dissimilar from Diamon Simpson. Isnt a great perimeter defender or shooter and struggles to create his own shot. He relies heavily on slashing to the basket, intercepting the passing lanes and operating in the post with his size and/or quickness depending on his opponent.

Dairese Gary had a pretty bad ACL injury that finished his college career early (ish). He also hasn't played professional basketball because of it. He MAY be ready before the NBL season, but it's a huge risk I think.

Also, he's had a few run ins with the law since being inactive. Might be another risk teams may not want to take.
