Herbert declines Sixers offer

According to Ten News. Nathan Herbert has declined an offer from the 36ers as he wants to move back to Melbourne. No mention of the Tigers though.

Looks more likely Ng will be back on board now you would think.

I think that his next season in NBL, will be quite a good one. Came off a serious injury after 2009/10 and I don't think he was well coached this season.

wish him well

With Schenscher, a good passer, having NG back for the open 3 when our bigs are doubled down low, seems a no brainer! I wouldnt be surprised if the offer to Herbert was really low anyways, but media wise just looks good to say he was made an offer rather than cut.

Shame to see him go, but honestly I would have preferred to keep Everard Bartlett over either Ng or Herbert.

His intensity and commitment to defense will be missed, but hopefully it opens up more chances for Mitch to play as a lockdown 2 guard and maybe provide off ball opportunities for Cadee.

Good luck to him for wherever he ends up (just as long as he doesn't go off against the Sixers).

I always thought Herbert was overrated. He is a decent role player but is too patchy. Good luck with the tigers playing under anstey

Genuine guy.

Sad to see him go, but good luck whereever he goes. Had good intensity in defence, bit patchy in offence, but with a season on the sidelines it's always hard to go from 0 to 100 km.hr in 3.2 seconds.

My mail is that Darren may be too busy with medicine to actually play - even if asked. Given the fact that he was guaranteed (yes guaranteed) a certain amount of court time this season (BY THE COACH) it would seem unlikely that he would actually trust the 36ers to provide a suitable contract that would be adhered to. I'm sure that people will say that the above is BS - but it was common knowledge - and Darren got screwed by a coach who doesn't appear capable of providing offensive plays which utilise the shooting skills (particularly 3 point) of a talented player. I now await the invariable negative comments. Have a nice day.

I can't understand the mentallity of having agreements of minimum court times. I hear it does happen and I am aware of ABA players shifting club based on some clubs promising a minimum level of court time and their existing club not willing to do likewise.

Surely your ability, your training ethic and your performance on the court will ensure you get the minutes you deserve. Players who need a safety net of this type of arrangement are probably not worth having as they lack confidence in their own ability. Just my view abd I am sure I will also hear the negative comments coming

For what it is worth Ng 37.5 % v Cadee 36.5% 3p shooting last season

I seriously doubt that Darren had a contractual obligation re court time.

also note that the guy with no shot according to some aka Creek nailed 33% of 3p shots

perception is a funny thing isnt it.

Darren perceived as a league leader yet only 4 per hundred makes difference between he and Creek.

still hope to get some more NGsanity this season

BJF - Creek wasn't guarded anywhere near as heavily from outside as Ng was though.

Many of Creeks 3 pointers were made with the defender choosing to hold back rather than go out to him. The same can't be said for Ng.

However, he still needed to hit the shots.

As skip said anyone with any intelligence stands six feet off of Creek because they know he can't shoot. You left out that Creek only attempted 18 3pts all season (6/18) and also shot just 44% from the field and 55% on FT's.

Ng's been around about a decade now and shoots 39% on 3pts for his career!

Is it school holidays already?

It's still an interesting point. To make a living as a specialist shooter you should make more than 37%.

I don't disagree that Ng is the guy i would want shooting for my life. I acknowledge that he also hit tougher shots and has done for a long time.
Also note that Ng had plays run specifically to set him up so he was open.
I also think people will be surprised at the development of creek's outside game this season
If Darren does move on / retire then we have recruited a guy who can shoot the ball at an equivalent rate plus a stud import to come.

33% from the 3point line is the same as 50% from the field.

True shooting percenage is a much better stat for shooting than percentages.

No it's not, 33% is a poor 3pt percentage.

35% is the limits of acceptable and anyone that considers themselves a 3pt shooter should shoot 37% at least.

If you take 6 3pt shots and make 33% it it 2 makes out of 6 and therefore 6 points.

If you take 6 2pt shots and make 50% it is 3 makes out of 6 and therefore 6 points.

Hence both equal the same amount of points.

Have you ever thought to consider that there's a reason he only attempted 18 3pts all season despite being given that shot any time he touches the ball?

6/18 (less than one 3pt attempt per game) isn't even worth mentioning despite it being a crap percentage too!

Anon... Your ability, work ethic etc etc mean nothing of the coach refuses to play you, especially in todays world where favoritism is abundant along with the bullshit politics that are involved. It's destroying the game from grass roots, and it's clearly evident in all levels of play

33% is reasonable from three - not good, not poor, just slightly below the average. A good shooter would make a lot more if left open like Creek is, but going from 15% to 33% in one season is a massive improvement.

Darren Ng is not a poor 3pt shooter and he's not a reasonable 3pt shooter. He's a good 3pt shooter.

Simple as that.

At times he is great. But last season he had six games where he shot 21/34 - exceptional - but over the other 22 he hit 18/69 - 26%. That's not good enough for a specialist shooter.
