R16 ABL Action - Crunch round

Mavs-Sabres
Women: The Mavs are gaining momentum and the Sabres, despite being down on form this season, are no easybeats. Both are on the rise and the Mavettes aiming off 5th. When was the last time Southern supporters barracked for a Sturt win? Mavettes to smash the Sabres like a guitar.
Men: A couple of weeks ago the Sabres would have been raising their crownies to each other anticipating a % boosting round and planning to chat on the bench during the game about more important things like the virtues of green tea. One win does not make a season, but the Sabres won't find time to clear the bench as much as they would have hoped as they go all Bruce Willis putting the Mavs away.

Rockets-Eagles
Women: Women’s MOTR. North have the 3 point split and host the apple crunchers. Tonight’s winner is likely to hold 2nd spot so the refs will be under more pressure than a blind man walking with a white cane through a Taliban minefield. Eagles have got Thompson with one hand on the Halls, and North boasts a well balanced team with any player able to step up on the night. This will be tighter than a fish’s bum and the Council should anticipate noise complaints from Hillcrest residents (it could even rival a Justin Bieber/1 Direction concert). This game deserves to go to OT and I think that the Eagles will pip North at the post, because we all know Forestville and wins go together like Roxby Downs and protestors.
Men: Probably should be Men's MOTR, but has been pipped at the post. You can't tell me spectators won't get their value tonight! Feagles by 18 last time and both sitting equal top on games won. Every board, every shot, every possession counts in this game. This isn't a game of basketball, this is a fight for supremacy with the loser licking their wounds for a rematch in finals. Feagles to double dack Norf at home and take it 2-0 !

Panthers-Lions
Women: Panthers season over. Lions confirmed finalists. Lions to clear the bench and let the young Lionesses roam free.
Men: Panthers in all sorts of disarray and Lions have proved time and time again they can take it to the top teams, yet fall at the final hurdle. Surely they won’t fall tonight . . . . or can they? No even Alby Mangels could botch this adventure.

Flames-Warriors
Women: Another easy win is there for the Norwood Lightning. Hopefully the blood can be hosed off the floor before the men’s game.
Men: GOTY. The Flames have come from no-where and the Warriors have nonchelontly drifted through this season winning the games that don’t matter and dropping the games that do. 5th spot is on the table. Will Norwood steal it from the Warriors? Last time I saw something equally audacious was the 1982 panty raid of the Annesley Boarding House. Norwood at home seem to have the edge, but games like these need champions to stand up and be counted. Who will stand tall for their team tonight? Nor-should make finals.

Tigers-Bearcats
Women: This is a must win game for the Tigers. The Bearcats should be easy prey on the Morphett Vale savannah, so in order to stay in finals they need to go for the jugular early. A loss tonight and making finals will be as hard as putting socks on an octupus. Let’s face it, next round they face the apple crunchers, then it’s Safari Cup.
Men: Tigers look like they played their final this year and knocked the Warriors out of finals, but the Bearcats will be hurting this week after choking up a win to their favourite neighbours. Two big scalps in a row could be a too big to ask.

That was Borrego just then on TV news .
The T-Birds tried to fast track her naturalisation
but they have to wait for it .
( Seems she had an interesting 17 minutes out there
last game . )

Bet a lot of boat people wish they were taller so they could jump the queue too. Strange world we live in when balls skills can get you an Aussie passport.

I think Carla had trouble adjusting from Netball to the physicality of basketball. Most of her fouls were dumb though.

Rockets were lucky to not go down two games against warriors, extremly lucky against bearcats and somehow got the W... my opinion, there not that good and I think the Eagles will give them a lesson and they will smash the rockets!

Last month been out and about looking at various finals contenders and my view is Forestville is best placed at the moment with its depth and experience. On the Rockets you say they have been lucky to win games recently but I don't know how to assess them. They do have a couple of injuries but they seem to generally get up and win close games. Does that make them a bad team or a good team. Good teams find a way to win and I wouldn't be discounting them yet for the finals

Ricey - Not to turn this into politics but the vast majority are not entering illegally.

Sounds like they point was exactly how it sounded.

So people coming on a boat are trying to enter legally? Please explain why they get detained then or sent back hahahaha

The comparison was made I believe to ilustrate that sport gets you further than humanitarian grounds. The boat people are detained because they are difficult to identify and thus prove they are legitimate refugees. Some are not anything other than queue jumpers.
If genuine refugees were able to get visas Ricey there wouldn't be boat people or boats. I don't have the answer for solving the boat people woes but presenting Australian citizenship to sports people just because they are sports people is soft politics and wrong.

So presenting an Aussie citizenship to somebody who offers something to improve the country other than somebody with no known talents or anything makes no sense? Dillusional... Guess you think free accom, warm place, food, education etc is horrible living conditions for them too... Some Aussie citizens get treated worse than these illegals...

Can spend $20,000+ to get on a rickety boat to get here but can't spend $3,000 on flight? No I don't think so...

I'm offended for Carla

Two, possibly 3 big outs for Tiger women.

Sad to see one of F/Ville's top age U18/ABA girls has done her knee again.

Nothing is ever a certainty in Basketball..you just never know what will happen!

Ricey, more illegals came via plane fights actually so I dont know why you are so in a fuss about boats.

Secondly for many there is no other option other than to jump on a boat.

I'm no green lefty and don't want them coming here on boats either mate but stop talking shit about stuff you have no idea about.

Would the ABA U18 be Amy Bell. Very sad for her, but I don't think her loss would make any difference to the team.

Who are the 3 Tigers Women?

Yeah but coming on a plane you can atleast if a real refugee go right to the government, and we dont know how many by boat because plenty just drop people off on the coast and leave them. There are no true accurate numbers as to how many have got here, only who have been busted, and it's a lot easier to get ones off a plane because guess what, we have their info for entering the country!

Ricey, have you ever caught an international flight?

At the boarding gate before your final destination, your passport (and potential entry visa) gets checked. If you need a visa and don't have one, the airline won't fly you. The last time I was in Abu Dhabi heading to London, my flight got held up because Etihad wouldn't let three people fly who didn't have a visa.

It is legal for anyone to enter Australia and claim asylum. Australia is a signatory to the 1952? and 1967? Refugee Conventions and this is reflected in the Migration Act. This includes arriving by boat.

Hot Tip - You cannot apply for a Protection (refugee) visa outside of Australia. You can only apply for one if you are IN Australia. The only way a refugee can obtain Australia without doing this is by being processed by the UNHCR, and getting lucky in being selected in Australia's quota system. The average length of time in this 'processing' system is between 10-12 years, depending on which UNHCR camp you find yourself in (Kenya, Sudan etc).

But don't let the facts get in the way of a talkback radio argument.

The only way Woodville can get within 100 points of Norwood women tonight is if the Woodville coach's tongue piercing catches the lights and blinds the entire Norwood team -might be worth a try.
Fellow anon above, do you think CABL rates highly enough to have other major events consider it?
Is the U18 a second time around casualty?

Good tight win by the Mavette's over Sturt! I'm sure the victory will taste very sweet! Some might say poetic justice with North belting the Eagles tonight with the recent inclusion of Carla 'Apples' Borrego. The ladies comp is still wide open this season!

This state is so far behind the rest od the world. All stats/results should go up Saturday night.

Wonder how they manage that around the world?

Let's set up a review panel to work it out, then do nothing.

Yep that's the policy.

It was. A little bit of research reveals there's an IT outage & that happens elsewhere in the world too. Another site shows all the results, Norwood belting Woodville Women 87 - 33 without the usual points from Foley.
