Sustainable club size

interested in the theory that unless club field minumum div 1 and 2 teams all division then need to look to consolidating. such theory would reduce clubs and create stronger competition. rationlaising club based on team numbers sinilar to electoral distribution ever 4 years to equalise numbers- current imbalance cant be sustained with caasulaty

Ah another Adelaide western district thread?

Seriously BSA just need to grow some balls grab the bulls by the horns and steer basketball in SA somewhere positive.. Either force them to amalgamate, give magic Div 1 option if they qualify during the failtastic summer season or continue to do nothing and allow local basketball to continue as is.. a joke?

St Claire United Magic Warriors must happen, the combo with Magic & the Bearcats was as unnatural as crossing a horse with a pony, bring in the Warriors and there will be a thoroughbred in the stable for the upcoming summer season.

Yes, Knox, Kilsyth and Dandenong are all bigger than BSA.

Centrals focus on elite player development.

THe club doesn't want to grow too big and it has a massive domestic competition at STARplex where it identifies talent from.

So how do they grow? And continue to compete if BSA move to a domestic comeptition model?

Leverage off of STARplex through an alliance.

Centrals focusing on elite player development is funny!

Central pick the cream and do not develop their players that onus falls back on the players individually and the utilisation of some of KB's programs being run at the starplex.

Been their done that.

Could they jointly run the competition with STARplex?

Would be a great initiative.

588, you hit the nail on the head. SOme great development happnening through STARPlex programs. Unfortunately very few lions kids take it up. More should and are encouraged to do so.

I'm sure though the 6-7 hrs a week they spend with the Lions provides some value as opposed to the 1 hr they spend with KB-usually between the ages of 11-13. KB is fantastic though with the youngsters.

I believe for a club to form they should field a min of div 1 and 2 through each age group so there is a balanced comp across the board, if not go play social!
It is just a money grabbing exercise by BSA to allow these others in as it throws the whole balance of the comp and any current club not fielding in all age groups should be made to show a business plan how they plan on filling vacant spots and after a yet to be determined time they do not meet the criteria get dropped from district basketball
