Who should the Kings get to replace Smith?

While the Kings have stayed quiet, naturalised import Kevin Smith has been removed from Sydney's website. They had used the full 70 points at that point, so the change leaves them on 63 and with seven points to use:

HENRY Corin 10
LAZARE Darnell 10
CROSSWHITE Ian 8
BRUCE Aaron 7
HARVEY James 7
MADGEN Ben 7 (6)
SMITH Kevin 7
DANN Graeme 5 (6)
MARTIN Luke 5
GARLEPP Tom 4
Who should they get?

I'm not sure if it could be anyone other then Luke Kendall. He is "the replacement".

Dillon has signed with a team in Romania.

Daniel is already in Romania so out of the equation. Kevin White will get the last spot!

Plus the last thing they need, even though Dillon is a quality player, is another guard, which is why it's disappointing to see those three players listed in the other thread...

BJ Anthony... huh... didn't think about him, and while there's question marks over him, I was impressed with his scrappy play and effort in the NZB games that I've seen... Surely not a long term solution to Crosswhite going down, but he's big and tough and at 5pts, if Crosswhite DOES go down for an extended period of time, that would allow a magical 10pt player to come in...

Does anyone know if he's stayed in shape after parting ways with the Breakers?

Jeff Dowdell is coming back from off-season surgery isn't he?

Even Tim Lang would be a HUGE improvement over any of the little guys they're looking at...

The 3 in sontention are Kevin White, Daniel Joyce & Ryan Thompson. Thompson is a genuine 3 but not really an inside player so unlikely to be much value covering the 4 spot.

Anthony is in good shape, i'm not so sure Heal/Kings are a fan of him but.

The four spot is covered by Lazare, Dann and Garlepp if need be.

Ballarat Miners on Twitter:

Kevin White and Daniel Joyce are suiting up for the Sydney Kings when they take on Shaun Bruce and the Cairns Taipans this Friday and Saturday. Who's your pick?

Thinking more of back up for the 5, as Lazare was the main sub for Crosswhite in their one pre-season game so far, and if Crossy goes down, there's very little support of a big enough nature to contend with some of the other 5s in the NBL...

My suggestion has been that instead of getting another little guy to back up a role that in the few mintes per game that Harvey and Madgen aren't playing the 3 (Madgen played some 3 against the Hawks when they were running a Henry/Bruce back court) they get a legit big to be more support for Crosswhite as he's already playing limited minutes in the pre-season...

But looks like that's all gone to ka-ka now...

Kings axing Kevin Smith is now official but mostly sickly PR spin ever?

The Sydney Kings has, by mutual agreement, released Kevin Smith from its playing roster for the forthcoming 2012 - 2013 NBL season.

Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ian Robilliard, made the announcement today following finalisation of Kevin's contract with the Sydney Kings.

"While there will be obvious disappointment that Kevin’s time with the Sydney Kings was short, this is the nature of all sports, including basketball," Robilliard said.

“We are pleased that the club was able come to an arrangement with Kevin where he is released from his Sydney Kings’ contract and all parties remain on friendly terms,” he added.

Head Coach, Shane Heal, said that Kevin left the club with the support and best wishes from the team and that he looked forward to hearing about his future endeavours.

“Kevin Smith is an outstanding individual and a person that commands respect. Through our 2012-2013 pre-season, he has shown great dedication to the Sydney Kings. While he still has a lot to offer basketball at an elite level, he wasn’t the player for us at this time,” Heal said.

“We all wish him well and he leaves us with his pride and reputation in tact and the respect of all those who played basketball with him, or simply met him while he wore the Sydney Kings’ colours,” he added.

Going by the amount of minutes he got these last two games in Tamworth (and how hard he hustled) it looks like White is in the lead over the other options...
