NH: All Australian Team Announced

The All Australian team has been announced with some 'surprise' selections.

B) Dempster McPharlin Glass

HB) Waters Richards Birchall

C) Cotchin Watson Beams

HF) Dangerfield Franklin Rioli

F) Milne Hawkins Cox

1R) Natanui Thompson Ablett

INT) Deledio Kennedy Pendlebury Swan

I think there's some pretty average selections and omissions to say the least. Natanui is an overhyped inclusion and I think Dempster and McPharlin were average selections.

I would've run with the following:

B) Birchall Glass Enright

HB) Waters Richards Reilly

C) Cotchin Watson Beams

HF) Dangerfield Franklin Rioli

F) Milne Hawkins Pavlich

1R) Cox Thompson Ablett

INT) Deledio Kennedy Pendlebury Swan

Milne out - Didnt even rate in the Top 10 of his clubs B&F
Riewoldt in - He is the Coleman medalist FFS.
Watson Captain - Glass only just made my team.
Jacobs and Maric in for both Eagles ruckmen. NicNats selection is a disgrace. Hitouts are just about a ruckmans most important job. He is ranked 16th in the league for avg hitouts a game. He played two or three amazing games for the year and the rest were average.

B) Birchall McPharlin Glass

HB) Waters Richards Deledio

C) Cotchin Watson(c) Swan

HF) Dangerfield Franklin L.Jetta

F) Hawkins J.Riewoldt Pavlich

1R) Jacobs Thompson Ablett(vc)

INT) Kennedy Pendlebury Beams Maric

I would have thought Damian Martin should have made it. Oh sorry, wrong sport.

Does "Fairest" come into the All-Australian selections at all?

How do teams generally decide their own B&F?

Never liked Milne...

Paul- Do you want Lindsay Tait in there too? :)

Tough side to pick with so many midfielders have outstanding years.

Naitanui selection is a bit of a crock, if they were going with 2 ruckmen Jacobs should have been there. Dont mind the Cox selection, he had a great year and won a few games off his own boot.

Milne, to me, deserves his spot. Fantastic season, 56 goals from a small forward in a team that didnt make finals is pretty impressive.

Pav and Riewoldt unlucky, Keiran Jack is a superstar and so under appreciated its not funny. I'd also like to add Reilly in there, very solid backline though.

No reason to have 4 mids on the bench.

Take out Nat (needs 1 or 2 more years), move Cox to Ruck (he is not one of the 6 best forwards in the AFL).
Take out Deleido and Kennedy, add Jacobs and Pav to the bench.

Makes the bench look more realistic, 2 mids, 1 ruck and a forward/utility.

Isaac - 'Fairest' doesnt really come into it at all at a club level. A player could be suspended but still win the clubs award. Basically is just for 'Best'

I often dislike the wording for sports awards. The AFL Player Association MVP award for instance went to Gary Ablett.

When your team finishes 17th out of 18 teams, how does that make you the most valuable player in the league?

Call it the Most Outstanding Player award maybe, not valuable.

Same argument was being had with Khazzouh two seasons ago.

Sorry meant to add J.Riewoldt into the forwardline for Cox moving to ruck.

F) Milne Hawkins J.Riewoldt

I agree with that Skip. As good as Ablett is, and he is a champion, the Gold Coast would have had exactly the same record without him playing.

The Nic Nat thing is bullshit, as is Rioli being there instead of about a dozen other small forwards, and Sam Mitchell not being in the team.

Pavlich not making the team is a disgrace. Was the best forward during the 2nd half of the year. Was the only reason Freo were in the finals.

Dempster / Milne both in the side, Saints didnt even make the finals.

Similar with Richmond, Cotchin deserves to be there, however Reilly should have been on the bench replacing Delidio.

Jacobs or Maric had better years than Nic Nat.

Pavlich, Jacobs should have made the team.

Gibson should be in the backline ...

Keeps racking up the stand out defensive stats ... not necessarily huge possession stats, but massive numbers of spoils ... which is what key defenders are supposed to do.

Holds the whole Hawthorn backline together and allows Birchall and co to do the mopping up ...

Sorry to digress but I have always wondered this, why 'All Australian'? in comparison to the "All Italian" or "All Mexican" teams that have been named for Australian Rules Football?

Should just give the players an over sense of an achievement and call it what it is, the 'All World' team..

Who will they play?
