The 2012/13 Hoops League Two FBL Draft

The Hoops League Two FBL Draft

Starts at 9am ACST Sunday Morning. I am posting this now as I won't have a lot of time between now and then. If you are really keen, you may start your picks early, however, the clock won’t start until 9am Sunday.

You have all been emailed the rules, please ask if you need them sent again. Remember you have 12 hours to make your pick. If the 12 hours expires, the next person may make their selection.
If you miss two picks, you may be replaced in the competition at the commissioners discretion.

Round 1
1 DB5
2 Pure Silk
3 Hendo8888
4 clarky
5 BJF
6 Bizzy
7 Ox
8 AMAZIN

Round 2
9 AMAZIN
10 Ox
11 Bizzy
12 BJF
13 clarky
14 Hendo8888
15 Pure Silk
16 DB5

This is then repeated through until all teams have selected 10 players.

Round 2 is also the order of the Waiver Wire. You are welcome to begin offering trades for draft pick and waiver wire selection as of now.

Down the thread is the player list. I will update this a couple of times each day with the remaining players. It is upto you though to make sure you don’t draft someone that has already been selected.

Any players signed/announced from now onwards, is not eligible to be drafted and will have to be acquired through free agency after the draft.

I really like your team hendo. There aren't any stud imports left, but alot of teams won't be able to pick them up as they have already reached the 2 import limit. If you can snag 2 of them, while everyone else is picking up bench Aussies, your team could be very strong with 7 legit starters. And I like the G/F versatility of Saville and Abercrombie.

Wookiee is a Kings fan (don't hold that against him) and a big NBL fan in general. Some of you may know him from Ozhoops.

He is just deciding whether to swap any existing players and will make his next 2 draft choices shortly.

Not swapping out any players, so will go against my better judgement (and hope that my player picking curse puts him out for at least two rounds) and select:

41. Matthew Burston (MEL) C

The bright side is that it's an Import, who will be replaced with another import. What if the news had been that Redhage had gone down with a season ending injury.

And you are 2nd on the Waiver, so hopefully you shouldnt have issues replacing him.

Ox

But if we don't win rfa bidding, we are expected to PLAY our 8th picks, which we don't get until everyone else makes their 10th picks.

You have the choice to make this a small disadvantage or a large one. Why choose the latter?

Reply #380954 | Report this post

That's the bitch of the draft Im afraid.

If I make an exception in this case, what happens if later today it's announced that someones first round pick is cut/injured.

Think yourself luck that it's your 8th pick in the draft.

I cant speak for Wookiee, but I don't think he is going to cut Lisch or Henry, which means you are in the box seat for any new imports to the league.

Reply #380956 | Report this post

ox
Years ago

injury is different to sacking. These guys are not eligable to play, or be listed any longer.

Like i said, your in a position where you can limit the effect it has. As it stands, our, 8th pick becomes our 9th, our 9th becomes 10th, and 10th will be last player avail in the draft, or a dev player. So it affects 3 picks, not just one. And to replace him, we then lose our spot on the Waiver.

Too many flaws to your reassurance on a replacement. They are talking replacing one with an aussie. What if its a luke nevill? Neither Hendo or I see the rights to him.

As unfortunate as it is, I agree with Skip's decision. Every pick of an import is a gamble and the timing of the sackings (before the draft is over) has caused an issue.
If these two had been sacked before the draft started then there would be 2 less to choose from, or if they were sacked after then replacements would need to be found on the Waiver Wire. It happens, and as Pure Silk said, at the end of the day we are doing this for a bit of fun.

I complete my draft by selecting Daniel Jackson.
His preseason has actually been pretty good. Don't expect him to do much in the regular season though.
Is he actually in the 10 this year?

Final roster:
Ian Crosswhite
Stephen Weigh
Thomas Abercrombie
Glen Saville
Adam Gibson

Cameron Tovey
Chris Goulding
Brad Robbins

(Replacement for) Jason Forte
Daniel Jackson

My season appears to hinge reasonably heavily on what Townsville do. I'm assuming Ox will use his waiver pick to replace Withers, so my replacement will either be an import if they sign 2, or probably nothing/someone pretty useless if they choose to sign an Aussie instead.

I look like this:

Pledger

May lack some scoring bunch in the G spot but have elected to go with only 1 real jump shooter who can score in bunches when he gets going.

I'm pretty happy with my final roster, especially considering the limited preparation I did for the draft.

D. Martin
C. Tragardh
A. Loughton
M. Creek
J. Cadee
C. Steindl
K. Braswell*
C. Webster
A. MacMillian
T. Demos

I think I might lack a dominant scorer, but I think I have enough guys who will rack up stats across multiple categories. I'm hoping they will all be efficient scorers, but I have my doubts.

F - David Gruber
F/G - Tim Coenraad
F/G - Graeme Dann
G - Ben Madgen
G - Everard Bartlett
G - Cameron Gliddon
G - Mitch Norton

I'm reasonably happy. My final 2 picks, hopefully see court time.

You seem to have an abundance of Centres.
Maybe you want to trade me one of your imports?

And to Wookiee, how do I score Waiver wire pick 1 off you?
It's probably more valuable to me, you have 2 very good imports who aren't going anywhere.

Should be ok still, with a lineup of:
C- Russ Hinder
PF- Jesse Wagstaff
SF- Shawn Redhage (C)
SG- Aaron Bruce
PG- Jamar Wilson (vc)

Ben- ?????? Hoping for a stud Guard import
Ben- Liam Rush
Ben- Daryl Corletto

Cover- Aaron Grabau, Lucas Walker

As Hendo said, TSV will determine my strength, but i have versatility in captain choice, depending on games per round, and opposition matchups.

I run a budget team like the Hawks...

perhaps we could also run an alternate league that complies to the points cap too?

I like the sound of a league that complies with the points cap. It adds another element to the draft and preparation.

So the 2 highest point teams both have already sacked their imports.

Too much work involved as it is already without complicating it with the points cap.

I did consider getting us all to set our teams up on a dream team site to save some time. But then you could have issues with players not fitting under their cap and they dont always have every player there to select.

Quietly confident with my team IF the big man Knight stands up. Was my #1 pick last year so to get him as my 3rd this year was pleasing. All teams IMO look pretty even. No clear standout unlike last year.

Barring Injury my Round 1 team will be

Knight
Edwards
Hill
Crawford
Jackson (c)

Blanchfield
Greer
Trueman

DNP
L.Martin
C.Cedar

Really like the idea of putting the teams into the dream team site, wonder if they would fit?

really liked the idea of teams going into nbl dream team, so i punched mine in. I can get my 9 players in with 90k free. So depending on who my 10th guy is, and what position he is eligable to play (need a ctr), it is possible. But if it was withers (or a new import), i was 30k short. Also, player positioning is a problem, unless all players are aligned with what dream team positions them

Any new import will be $116K i think

My 9 players only have 18k left.
So regardless of who I get for Forte, my team will still be overpriced for DT.
