WNBL Players from WNBA

The WNBL clubs are obviously not rich so who is paying for these current WNBA players to come out and play- sponsors? Owners? And is there a salary cap for wnbl?

League/govt contributes to Jackson's wage.

Dandenong signing Monica Wright is nothing short of a joke. They don't need her. They have a good enough roster to win the championship and recruited well from the AIS. How will this signing affect those players as well as the likes of Cunningham, Cumming etc... Compensation and back up for a coach that has no idea what he is doing.
Maybe the WNBL needs to look at enforcing a salary cap?

But what about players lilke Sykes, Wright, Koehn- surely they'd be on decent money otherwise they'd be playing in europe?

The wnbl season is 3-4 months long.

Europe is 7-8Mths.

Players that come here won't get paid as much as Europe yet they don't have to train twice day and live in Russia during the winter.

Our improved AUD v the EURO has also helped.

re Dandy. They won the championship last year and attracted more sponsors. Should they turn down an opp to get Monica and improve their chances of winning a championship? Every player on that team should improve this year due to the level of their practices.

maybe we should be glass half full and say the league is getting a profile and some may want a stint living / playing in Australia.

Previous americans have said the lifestyle appeals and a huge bonus is we talk the same language making day to day interactions far more appealing.

now for the lighting to sign - maya moore, cappie, simone or griner......

Probably because they have to. Why do you think Becky Hammond played for the Russians in the Olympics- because the WNBA salaries range from $35,000 per season to $101,000 dollars maximum. A lot of WNBA players have to play all year round and since our dollar is trading higher then the green back, we're going to see more girls playing here in the off season.

Close on Jackson's contract...

A lot more private than government money. Her contract from a few years ago was 'government assisted', not so much this time.

Such "hate"! This so-called "dud" has been in every junior state team possible with 5 gold medals, Pacific School Games with 1 gold medal, represented Australia twice with 2 gold medals, won 3 SEABL championships and 1 WNBL championship, never delayed her studies through sporting commitments, had an Enter score in the 90s which got her into any Victorian university she wanted, 6 US college scholarship offers, a Bachelor of Communication Design studying full-time while playing basketball full-time and working in her career field part-time then graduating with distinction and accepted into a Masters program at RMIT within 1 day of applying. Now she is working full-time in her career field and completing her Masters part-time. Plus is an Active Girls role model and spends many Saturdays going to domestic junior girls bball games whenever she is asked and met the man in her life in Hawaii ALL BEFORE SHE HAS TURNED 23! Oh I forgot ... also recovering over summer from a spontaneous pneumothorax from a training injury. Maybe this is a rant and maybe this from someone who knows her well but hell ... she surely has earned some respect and if petty people can't give that then just be quiet.
