Around the NBL

Sorry it's been a while!

News on the NBL front is slim indeed.

Two people have emerged with rumours that the Cairns Taipans are pursuing Charles Thomas. Marcus Timmons may be applying for citizenship, but issues with that application have put the CT plan in jeopardy.

Andrew Goodwin, unhappy with the offer put to him by the Crocs, is playing in NZ with just about everyone else. Ben Knight picked up NZ NBL player of the week, and Marcus Timmons was close behind. Australian players in NZ make up 50% of the top ten in their Player Power Rankings.

Matt Nielsen has won the Gaze Medal for 2003 Male International Player of the Year. He's really working on that International part, leaving the Kings for either the NBA or Europe.

The Hunter Pirates have signed 20 year-old Mitch Selwood for 2004/05. He's a 209cm forward playing in the Waratah ABL.

The Wollongong Hawks have signed John Phillip and Cam Rigby, and are aiming to get John Mueller too.

The Boomers team to tour Europe this month has been named and Martin Cattalini is the only Sixer in there. Nothing on the Sixers new site about it, poor guy! Here's the team:

David Andersen (Montepaschi Siena, Italy)
Andrew Bogut (University of Utah, US)
CJ Bruton (Sydney Kings)
Ben Castle (Brisbane Bullets)
Martin Cattalini (Adelaide 36ers)
Shane Heal (C) (Kasani, Greece)
Matthew Nielsen (Sydney Kings)
John Rillie (Townsville Crocs)
Paul Rogers (Girona, Spain)
Tony Ronaldson (Perth Wildcats)
Glen Saville (Wollongong Hawks)
Jason Smith (Sydney Kings)
Brett Wheeler (Sydney Kings)

Members of the 2004 Boomers squad not selected due to injury are: Sam Mackinnon and Brett Maher.

Here's the roster:

June 20 Depart Sydney
June 23 Game v Italy
June 24 Game v Croatia
June 25 - 27 Tournament - Italy, Croatia, France, Australia
Game schedule TBC
June 30 Arrive Sydney

Onwards! Luke McMillan has left the Tigers after the signing of David Stiff and has signed something with the Razorbacks.

Eddie Crouch has been awarded an OAM for services to basketball in the Queen's Birthday Honors list. Some are suggesting that his service to basketball was retiring. ;)

Oh, and outside of the NBL, the Pistons beat the Lakers. No riots yet...

Ha, everyone should read my new msn signin name: "Darko is officially crap" - anyone see him get stripped in game 5! Still, the team game always beats the individual. Props to the Pistons.
