BigV Action

A great night out at Broadmeadows. The Waverley State Championship Women took it right up to Hume and lost by three in a thrilling game, whist the Champ men were simply dominant over the Broncos boys. Don't forget to get to the stadium to watch the Falcon's Youth teams take on Kilsyth starting at 12.30 pm. If you can't make it catch the games online at www.mindittv.net/wba

Might be time for a coaching change at Melb Uni after talking up how talented their roster is over the summer and at Ballarat tournament. Last nights loss to the previous winless Sunbury definitely under achieving in Div 1

Warrandyte's D1 men would also be feeling the pressure after another loss, this time at home to Chelsea

Cracking game of Big V basketball at TLC with Bulleen taking on Corio Bay.

Boomers by 3 in OT ... big win ...

Standerfer huge with 38 points, Rose just finding his feet with a quiet 22.

Stefan Osborne with a massive three to make it in overtime, also 6 from 9 from the three. rose, yasuf and standefer were very big at the end to get them up for the win.

Best Big V game in recent history. Absolutely fantastic to watch! Quality of the players was first rate.

Osborne was freakish even if he did step over the line on his three...

Corey was a monster and clutch at the line with Mike tearing it up int he first qtr but well held after that.

The 2 teams to beat I would think.....

@kdb best game of this season thus far...awesome to watch.

Both teams loads with talent...I think they'll both be fighting it out with Waverley as the best 3 teams in the comp, but stilll early an injuries and form can change.

It looks to be the same problem at Warrandyte as the last 2 seasons with there not being enough balls on the court for everyone to get there stats up.

Calvin Henry had his second straight 40 point game for Mildura with Terrel Bell also having a triple double. Can Mildura ride these 2 imports into a deep play off run?

@TigerWatcher - Havent seen Waverley yet but next week will be another cracker for Bulleen and another test for the boys.

But agree, Waverley and even Ringwood if they can find some form pose a threat on any given night.

I know its early but shaping up to be an exciting season coming up with a number of upsets already and quality play from a number of teams.....

If only the NBL could get this exciting.. lol

Shannon Erskine played his 450th SEABL/Big V game for Mildura on Saturday night. A great Achievement for one of the real good guys of Australian Basketball.

Very interesting to see Ma'alo Hicks not play the OT period for Stingrays against Bulleen. Easily dominated Bulleen's bigs during the game. Was in foul trouble early again but no minutes in OT is crazy..

Great game by Bulleen who are for mine the team to beat.

@anon - That did surprise me a bit, it may have been because he is foul prone and they were already in the bonus.

Regardless, Was a great spectacle for the game of bball and some good coaching from both teams.

The Big V and SEABL have one thing over the NBL IMO, the opportunity to develop real tribalism and an atmosphere of intense rivalry generated through their association and connection with the local basketball community...

Talking about rivalries, it would have been great if the Geelong Supercats accepted the Stingrays exhibition match offer for charity (Children's ward at Geelong Hospital). It would have been the biggest rivalry in the region, sell out crowd and got all hoopers in the region talking about it. It is a pity Supercats ego is too big and are too afraid of the possibility of losing to Stingrays.

Sting what?
Years ago

Tips for this week:
Stingrays v Sherbrooke:
Stingrays will want to bounce back after last weeks thriller loss in overtime to Bulleen. Stingrays will be too strong for Sherbrooke and will want to put in a 4 qtr effort.

Expect Eric Williams, Stefan Osborne and Ma'alo Hicks to continue good form.
Stingrays by 20 plus

Ringwood v Hume City:
This should be a good game. Both teams are struggling at the moment and are desperate for a win. JB has been monstrous and ABK has been good too for the Broncos. If the Broncos can maintain Snowball they are in for a shot but if he gets freedom it will be all over for the Broncos.

Jermaine Maybank really needs to step up for the Broncos, his hand is hopefully nearly 100%. His stats for the season are 6.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 3asp and shooting at 29.4%.

Ringwood too strong with depth but if the Broncos can get more to share the load, they could cause an upset and ruin Ringwoods chances of going back to back.

Melbourne Tigers v Eltham Wildcats:
Eltham should get the win here if they have their full team. They are very up and down on who is playing but Cuffe should lead the way and get the win.

Waverley Falcons v Bulleen:
Match of the round, no doubt about it. 2 title contenders going head to head. Will be interesting to see if Bulleen can back it up against another heavyweight team. Waverley too much depth.

Tip: Waverley...just at home.

Diamond Valley v Werribee:
This should be a very high scoring game. Both teams love to run and gun and should be a shoot out. No Oswald for Werribee hurts them inside and that could be the difference.

DV by 5 in what should be an entertaining game.

Two top of the table clashes this Sunday the 26th April at the Waverley Basketball Stadium as the VYCM Falcons (1st) take on the Bulleen Boomers (3rd). Who will come away with bragging rights? Make it to the stadium at 12.30 pm AEST to see what the hype about Deng Adel, Kuany Kuany and the rest of the strong Falcons squad is all about. Then at 2.30 pm AEST the SCM (2nd) face off against Bullen (1st) but this time the ladder positions are reversed. Bulleen has been the surprise packet of the competition so far with the Falcon's just quietly going about their business. Will Sedale (Unguardable) Threatt, Ivan (the Destroyer) Platenik, and the rest of the team prove too much to handle, or will the Corey Standerfer led Boomers do a number on the 2 times champions.

Find out by attending the games in person or online at http://www.mindittv.biz/wba
