Who replaces Nielsen as Boomers captain?

Just wondering thoughts on the next boomers Captain. Nielson did a great job and led from the front. Who do we have to take the reins???

Wortho if he makes it, otherwise Andersen / Delly.

Keep Mills in the job of waving towels - he's a champion at that. LOL.

Sorry, don't we want a leader?? There is no one above that has the respect and leadership skills. Newley may have but has a inconsistent game. Jawai, you have to be kidding. Mills, a team player, Not.

For mine, Mills is not the leader we need. I think Delly is the one who has the leadership credentials for the long term benefit of the team. But is it too early for him to be captain, or should he be vice captain?

Bogut is the obvious choice as captain for mine, pending his availability of course. But if he is not free, then the choice is probably limited to:

Andersen (2014 will probably be his last campaign)
Worthington (2014 will probably be his last campaign if he makes the team)
Mills (I don't think he is the best choice)
Dellavedova (my long term choice)
Ingles (he is not leadership material)
Newley (I don't think he fits the bill)
Baynes (see Newley)
Jawai (see Newley and Baynes)
Broekhoff (lacks experience at this level)

Bogut hands down!

Delly is too young - like the Demons making Grimes and Trengrove Captains. It will annoy the older guys.

If Bogut unavailbale I would go Andersen.

Bogut would be a good choice if he was available. Otherwise, I'd jump on the Delly bandwagon early. Although realistically I see a veteran becoming a one-off captain before handing over to Delly.

have to agree a bit with Libertine. naming someone captain doesnt really mean a lot... Whoever has the loudest voice and the calmest head will naturally emerge as one whether they are called captain or not.

Thank fuck we have smart enough posters to not mention Adam Gibson's name in here.

I want Bogut to be our captain with Delly learning all the time he will be our next long term captain.

How good is Dante Exum at leading a side?

Delly is ready to be captain. Book it in. Smart guy, psychology major, natural born leader, starting point guard, high basketball IQ. He fits the bill completely, and will be 24 at the next major tournament. I don't think that's too young. Bogut and Delly co-captains would be ideal to begin with, but I think Delly will captain the Boomers for the next decade at least.

Yep, start Delly as captain early.

He's already shown he can cut it at the highest level. If there are any Boomers who couldn't accept him as captain, then they're full of their own self-importance.

Delly is far too young and inexperienced and potentially could disrupt his game. It has to be one of the more senior players with Delly perhaps as vice. We need to train and encourage these guys.

I would suggest either Ingles , Wortho or Anderson.

For me the best candidate would be Ingles, as I expect him to be there for the 2016 oylmpics.

^Anon, I believe Greg has an issue overall with Ingles as a player. I'd be the first person to defend Ingles as a player, but as the leader and captain of our national team? No sir, he is not the man for the job in my opinion.

Bogut would be inspiring to have in the team, no matter the role, however the true leader of the team must be the point guard = Delly!!

Del is a winner, he is old enough and has the experience, no need to look further guys, lock it in!

"Delly is far too young and inexperienced and potentially could disrupt his game"

He was captain his senior year at St Marys. You must be blind to think it disrupted his game.

Actually the complete opposite, he thrives off a leadership role

I see it this way, a leader is a leader, whether it be planning an assault on bunker hill or taking on the USA in the trench warfare that is hoops these days; it matters less how old one is, what matters is what they are made of...

Delly is made of the right stuff, let's not make the mistake of confusing leadership with experience or age or the opinions of others!

His track record from playing under 18's for Vic Country to nominating for the NBA says it for him.

Come'th the hour, come'th the man.....!

We need to look forward in this country, not back to what has passed us by, this new breed of generation Y or Z or whatever letter we are up to is capable beyond what we have seen before, all we need to do is have faith in them.

Leadership!

It is about taking responsibility, not making excuses.

It can't be taught, only learned.

Great leaders inspire others to lead not follow.

This bloke is a leader, pure and simple...

Agree with Bear.

The issues he will face as captain of the Boomers won't be anything different to what he has faced over his entire college career.

Basketball is basketball.

Leading kids who look up to you while playing at a standard you are a star it is completely different to leading players who are older and a number better than you while playing against opponents who are better than you.

He will captain Australia someday, just not ready yet. He needs to consolidate himself as a good international player first.

I agree 100%. Don't put too much pressure on the kid before he's ready. Leadership on the court is only part of the equation and much of the rest is about maturity.
