Comment from Jeff Goodman re Delly to Spurs in second round 'Makes all the right decisions, is tough as nails and could fit in the Spurs system perfectly.'

x2 to not playing with spurs. pop doesn't give many chances so it would be a waste of talent (just look at what is happening to Baynes and Patty). hope he goes to houston - exciting young team that delly can grow with.

Delly had the equal 5th most Bench reps in the athletic testing :)

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?year=2013&sort2=DESC&draft=0&pos=0&source=All&sort=14

We will just ignore the rest of the tests ;)

Measured at 6'3" without shoes so that is a bonus for a PG.

He is also getting some love from Jon Givony (DraftExpress writer).....

Jonathan Givony ‏@DraftExpress 7h
Matthew Dellavedova doing a very nice job so far. Picking apart the defense on the pick and roll. Making shots when they go under. So smart.

Probably even more impressive is the praise from Flip Saunders (former T-Wolves head coach, current GM):

@Flip_Saunders: "Mbakwe most impressive player in Brooklyn Pre Draft combine this morning. Dellavedova also good."

Also as an aside, the testing numbers on DJ Stephens are insane,

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?year=All&sort2=DESC&draft=0&pos=0&source=Nets%20Workout&sort=5

pretty much the flip side of Delly: weak at all the fundamentals but an amazing athlete

Yep, Stephens has been called by many 'the best athlete in the draft'. Easy to see why with dunks like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuS3oOCLG3w

Best athlete often ends up as the project fail that never delivers...

Delly will stack up well

http://sportssnip.com/hoping-for-a-shot-fringe-draft-prospects-take-the-court/

"Matthew Dellavedova had some trouble in the first couple of minutes, but settled down and finished as the best guard on the court in the second workout, commanding his team. He had a stretch where he hit back-to-back threes and burned Vincent Council on a back-door cut for an easy layup. At 6'4″, Dellavedova has solid size for a guard, but he doesn’t have great speed to keep up with the likes of pros. An Australian, Dellavedova was one of the few international products on hand."

delly would be good at spurs

he could become the backup (Pop would like his attitude and work ethic)

Can see him going second round and someone keeping an eye on him in the D-League to see how he goes against the better Athletes in the Pro's and if he copes well they might promote him.

From nbadraft.net

Dellavedova wound up being one of a few guys who left a very large impression on Wednesday thanks to his halfcourt play, specifically in the pick-and-roll and his decision making once the screen came. Council, though, more than held his own, leaving his own impression that some of his attributes would translate well to the NBA game, while others could still use some fine-tuning.

"He played very smart and he has an NBA handle, NBA passing ability," a veteran NBA scout who was in the building told SNY.tv. “If you look at his percentages, his perimeter shooting leaves a lot to be desired, but he took it all in and played very well and very intelligently today.”

LC I think the shooting percentage comment was about Vincent Council not Delly, at least thats how I read it, because he hit back to back threes earlier in the day. good to see him getting plenty of interest. how many days is this Combine?

I assume the quote is about Council, upon looking at his senior stats:

10 ppg
@ 35 % FG
@ 27.5 % 3-point
@ 65.6 % FT

Wow.

From draftexpress.com:

2013 Nets Combine Recap

Matthew Dellavedova, St. Mary's - Dellavedova did a good job making up for lost time after electing to skip the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and seeing that decision backfire after not being invited to the NBA Combine in Chicago last week. He ran his team very effectively in New Jersey, showing strong ball-handling skills, timing and court vision on the pick and roll, and the ability to make jump-shots off the dribble when defenses went underneath screens. Dellavedova measured a solid 6-3 without shoes, but sports just a 6-4 wingspan, which hampers him primarily on the defensive end, an area he struggled in both in college and in this setting. His unselfishness and high basketball IQ could nevertheless convince a team to use a NBA roster spot on him as he appears to be more than talented enough to hold his own on the offensive end of the floor at either guard spot. He also looks willing to, at the very least, put the effort in defensively to not embarrass himself.

Well, if I went to war in the trenches I wouldn't mind Delli next to me firing a few shots regardless of any percieved weakness at the 'D', a winner is a winner and he is that!!

I'm surprised that Delly's 'D' always comes up. I remember him being really effective at slowing Kirk Penney down in a Boomers v NZ game a couple of years ago. And whilst I realise Penney doesn't have the same quickness as an NBA guard, he was absolutely on fire to start this game, and had already burned both Ingles and Newley, then Del came off the bench and harrassed him and was able to slow him down.

He blew past Delly very easily whenver he got the ball, but Delly played some good denial at times. It certainly wasnt shutdown though, more case of 19yo doing ok job on a star and surprising evryone.
