Delly Watch: Cavs v Spurs

Delly starting tonight against the Spurs as Summer League play moves into the new 'tournament' mode.

Delly played 23 minutes, didn't trouble the scorers, going 0-4 from the field, but had 4 assists and only 1 turnover, and the Cavs beat the Spurs.

Goulding played 8 minutes, but also didn't get on the scoreboard.

For the Spurs, Baynes was solid with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but was a horrible -12!

+/- is the worst stat in basketball.

I would pay attention to meaningful statistics and on court performance.

+/- is the worst stat for ball hogs. +/- is actually the best to measure effectiveness as a player.

It's not a perfect stat but it's also no coincidence that the player with the best +/- last season was Lebron James.

dell seems to not be scoring as much, but only having 1 turnover today and 4 assists in 23 mins is not to bad, his leadership around the court has been great!

Just needs to show a bit of his scoring.

Even if it is just one game where he goes for 15 or so.

Naturally teams are probably worried about his ability to score at the NBA level. When a player averages 15/16ppg in his Senior year and struggles to score at Summer League, there is a bit of concern.

However, Delly is smart and is playing the way he would if he was playing in a Cavs regular season game (smart, controlled, leading from the front, not been selfish with the ball)

Maybe next game, he should just go out and be really aggressive and get some shots up just to show he can put the ball in the hoop (His IQ, control, leadership is not in doubt)

We also can't judge him because we don't know what the Cavs have asked him to do, ie. what role he is playing for them. He's not even jacking up many shots, and with a ball stopper like Waiters, I doubt Delly is seeing much of the ball after it's left his hands.

Waiters went off today too.

Played well in tough minutes. Pity shot not falling but seems to be making an impression.

+/- is one of the best statistics when looking at a seasons worth of data or more. Not so useful for a sample of just one game.

Agree with +/- as a useful statistical measurement over a longer period, but that's probably the norm for most cases when you only consider statistics...

Imagine John Stockton played summer league in his prime, i bet his stats wouldn't be great and he'd look lousy on defence too.

#Cavs have decision to make on Chris Quinn. Not likely to make team & teams overseas showing interest. Could cut him soon to do him a favor

This is huge for delly as quinn is currently the 3rd string!

Philly, where did you hear DELL most likely will get a roster spot? I'd like to see it, but the lack of scoring and his shooting percentage has been really poor so far.

Keep eye on PG Matthew Dellavedova. #Cavs like him, would love for him to play for Canton. But he's drawing interest from overseas

'Canton' I understand, is a reference to the NBA D league team Canton Charge?

D-League would be better than Europe for Delly I think, simply because NBDL is more similar to NBA than Europe. And we can pretty safely say that he will be playing the bulk of his career in the NBA.

Condition him to play the NBA game (because that's the goal) rather than Europe.

I agree with Statsheet, you want to be right under there noses... NBA can see a lot, and is aware of a lot, but you have more chance being overlooked overseas

PG Matthew Dellavedova has impressed this summer, has chance to stick on final 15 now. Was told last night other teams interested in him too
