Just a bit perplexed about this petition, what is the magic number that the free to air networks are looking for. How many would generate a positive outcome 25,000- 35,000 or 200,000 people?

Basically to get any sort of response from a free to air network you are going to need 500,000- 1,000,000 signatures and if you can get that many legitimate people to sign on, why did basketball get pulled because of poor ratings in the first place. With 1,000,000 signatures the free to air networks will take 30% of that as a consumer who might consider watching a game of basketball on prime time (to expensive to broadcast a game at 12 midnight, that's why they wont do it).

Remember whom the target audience would be (15-30 year old males) and 70% of that target audience would go out on a Friday or Saturday night, the logical thing to do would be to organise with a pub or club (a basketball club could do a few social occasions and increase the coffers) to have the fox feed played and watch it there
