Tigers vs Gaels pre-season game tonight (Aug 15)

NBL clubs have been hampered in suiting their new American players due to visa backlogs with the Immigration Department.

New Tigers Stephen Dennis and Scott Morrison will be bystanders as Melbourne takes on the Gaels at Kilsyth tonight but are powerless due to the missing visas.
Also no Wortho - still coming back from minor injury.

Who does that leave as newcomers? Macmillan?

Not being streamed live I'm afraid, but you can catch live stats here: http://www.fibalivestats.com/matches/28377/07/87/05/44ePGzdzJge46/

Gaels lead Melbourne 49-38 at half time. Waldow has 13&3, Jackson 12&3 and Holt 11pts and Walker with 10pts.

Chris Goulding who played Summerleague with the Cav's leads with 14pts, whilst former Gael Lucas Walker has 9ts and 5 rebounds.

Lucas Walker let go with a thunderous facial over an unfortunate current Gael...something that is the talk of the game and set to feature on YouTube soon...

Sounded like that Walker jam was something else. Good effort by St Mary's to get so close to a team with seven rostered players, although Auryn MacMillan will want to forget his 4f, 5to Tigers debut!

Geez, it was an 18-4 final quarter from the Tigers!

St Mary's scored 41 points in the first 17 minutes and then Melbourne outscored them 49-26 over the last 23 minutes. Talk about a game of two halves!

Matt Hodgson with 7r in 12mins for St Mary's.

Very curious to see what Wortho has left in the tank. Never been a massive fan, always felt he got off to a flyer in Sydney and has got through off his hype from there. Hopefully for the Tigers sake he gives them something, NBL cant afford for the Melbourne Tigers to be bad again.

Wow that is really impressive for Goulding, I was expecting 10-30+ from him. Impressive percentage.

I'm surprised the Gaels got that close let alone led by 24! The Tigers are going to be impressive this season when they get Wortho and imports in there.
Lucas Walker SMC alum is pretty exciting. Hopefully I get to see his dunk somewhere!

This year's tours have been giving interesting results. It seems if you take 3-4 starters out from an NBL team you get a very close and entertaining game. August is probably perfect timing for that too.

They are great pre-season workouts for the NBL teams, whereas playing against each other at this time of year they go through the motions, the college kids go out their and play hard to win and the NBL guys have no option but to match it.

Granted it's only an exhibition game against a college team, but Goulding's form further questions his non-selection for the Boomers. His omission has been further highlighted as a result of Newley's withdrawal, there weren't many who could attack the NZ basket on Wednesday night.

Hopefully Chris can put his head down and work on the supposed defensive deficiencies Lemanis mentioned, as we all know he can score. He'd be a chance to lead the league in scoring this year potentially? 17ppg was enough to get the crown last season. With Dennis sharing the ball around a bit more, and Wortho commanding attention from the defence, Chris could find himself with a couple of extra looks.

Heres a idea, what if they looked outside the box a bit.

How about they look away from what position they finish and start look to reward clubs on other tangable and intangible items.

*Community work
*Stability
*Facility improvements
*Responsible management of contracts
*Life after basketball transition courses

Reward teams who don't make the finals who are looking to improve the league.
