Impressive signing. Don't really know how he's gone post-college in Europe/D-League, but in college he was awesome. Pretty rare for an NBL team to get a player who was averaging around 15 points and 6-7 assists at a college like Illinois.

He's more of a 1 than a 2 so interesting to know how he'll go given Cairns already have Wilson and Bruce at the 1 spot. Thought Cairns needed more of an out and out shooting guard but with McCamey available perhaps it was just a matter of picking the best available player.

If Fearne plays a starting backcourt of Wilson and McCamey it'll be interesting to know how he fits in Gliddon, Weigh, Tragardh and Loughton who are all worthy of starter's positions.

It'll depend on how he works the front court. With hopefully healthy legit back ups at the 4 and 5 this year, it should be easier to share minutes around, assuming Burston/Loughton doesn't go down. The real test will be on the wings, trying to balance Weigh and further developing Gliddon and Steindl.

Wilson/Bruce

McCamey/Gliddon

Weigh/Steindl

Trigger/Young

Loughton/Burston

Any way it's sliced, they should be making a run at the top four.

College highlights and numbers are very strong though. Makes for an exciting backcourt!

Sounds like a decent player, a handler who can shoot from range, which is what Cairns need. Had some good games in Turkey, Israel and NBA-D but overall hasnt set the pro world alight yet, so he has a point to prove.

Wilson, Gliddon and McCamey is certainly an NBL level guard rotation, something they havent really had under Fearne.

Cairns Post ran an article quoting Fearne saying in discussions with Ubaka and others.

And ATF mentioned that, plus it was posted on Hoops.

I thought they would have chased a rim protector, American/Crosswhite type.

The Trig/Loughton combo didn't really seem to work last season. They played at a slow pace and leaked points which wasn't a good combo.

I like their starting unit.

Hopefully, for their sake, McCamey and Wilson can operate effectively together.

I would expect that, when Wilson is on the bench, McCamey would move to the PG position and Gliddon will come in at the two.

Unsure of their bench though.

Especially Young.

Can't see him having the mobility/athleticism to defend Vukona, Lazare, Worthington, Forman, Redhage, Conklin, Rush.

Bruce could be a risk as well, though Fearne must see his ability to handle the rock.

Steindl can't defend to save himself.

And Burston is probably one of the most unfit, unhealthy and un-athletic centers in the League.

Unsure about this. Agree with Anon: need a new Crosswhite, or at least someone who can cover what Burston's supposed to be doing when Burston inevitably goes out crippled in mid-November.

Given his history probably comes cheaper than Deleon but really thought Deleon would've been a good fit for their situation.

Deleon and Wilson would be too small defensively as both are quite slight. Would be entertaining offensively.

Deleon doesnt strike me as the right fit for this team, but you never really know until all the pieces are on the floor in meaningful games. Tough job putting a team together, particularly with point cap to deal with as well.
