Pioneers = south conference champs

Great game with a great finish! Ben Allen hits a three with less than a second on the clock for the win. B hill was fantastic and t daly very solid again. Clearly beat s McDonald an should get a Nbl contract of finals form. Pioneers still missing burdon. And what about the crowd noise, unbelievable!

I expect they will take out all seabl championship next week!

Can't really say Tom Daly "beat" Shane McDonald when McDonald had 12 assists... Daly managed to stop his scoring which was great news for Mount Gambier. But Shane is the BEST in the SEABL at assisting and running the offence.

Agreed. Daly is no where near the calibre of McDonald - his shot selection, or persistence to drive and get the ball thrown back down his throat shows he has a way to go before he can be handed the reins to an NBL side. He is talented, no questioning that, but there is plenty of talent around Australia - smarts is what will help you make that next step, particularly as a PG.

is there any footage of "clutch" Allen doing his thing? Would be great to see. Haven't been able to find anything on tube as of yet?

McDonald had every single one of Nunawading's assists! Wonder how common that is?

Shane's issue in the NBL was his lack of strength and, for someone so small, lack of genuine jets. He doesnt seem to have really bulked up a lot, but he is such a smart player at SEABL level he can use the ball-screen so beautifully.

Shane could be a backup PG in the NBL, no problem at all. He has been and is still underestimated as he just looks like the next guy walking down the street.

Can't run, can't jump... Best PG in the SEABL.

Lack of genuine jets. What utter rubbish. Macca is probably the quickest player in the seabl and certainly is more than capabale of playing NBL. The only problem he has is leaving his day job to take a pay cut to play in the NBL.

Great passing game for McDonald but he didnt score which Nunawading also rely on and gets looked after by the refs. yes four fouls but he handchecks the hell out of his opponent most times down the floor and never gets called. Dont get me wrong I think he is the best point guard in seabl but thought that Dayl had the better of the dual on the night.

The fact that a teacher would be offered less money tells you where he sits in the scheme of things. Top SEABL player who is capable of being a 10th man in the NBL. But there aren't many clubs looking for an unproven 28 year old as their 10th man, nor many 28 year olds looking for a $40,000 contract. Erik Burdon is a lucky man.

Not many people are 28 are willing to take a pay cut and work for $40K a year...pretty hard to survive on that...even if you get another $10K playing SEABL or state league.

$50K a year is below the avg wage and at 28 is putting you under the pump when you leave for the "real world" in a year or two.

Yes, McDonald is more than capable of making a NBL roster, has been for years but his career is more important to him and he makes a fair chunk of money playing SEABL anyway.

At 28 his NBL window is shut in any event.

At 28 I wasn't earning much more than $50K and seven years later I own two houses (fairly cheap ones), it doesn't have to put you under the pump, but most aren't interested in that sort of money at that age and fair enough especially if you are a marginal talent and may not get another NBL contract after one year.

The problem is also stepping out of your long term established career path too for a 1-5 year NBL gig.

The loss of momentum could hurt his teaching career long term, all for the chance to play NBL for a few years on less money? doesn't make sense does it.

Not at all, that was what I said. Last time he didn't go very well at all, he is probably better now but if he risks it and he is not then he has set himself back. The people who make it usually take risks, he decided that was not the path for him and that is a good choice because he is a marginal player.

40k is chump change if your in melb/Sydney/Perth your not putting your career on hold for it for 1 year which might be all it is.

Do you own the two houses or does the bank?
