So does this mean all season long on play by plays being forced to read annoying twitter comments from morons? Going to be a long and painful season!

Can it be turned off?

Was at the game and Goulding wow! Expect him to have a year similar to Madgens last year.
Worthington makes a big difference too for Melbourne. Dennis is solid too but got in foul trouble though.
Abercrombie was good for the Breakers and they missed Pledgers size tonight. Lazare was playing Centre.
Overall the refs blew the crap out of the game and the new interpretations will take a while for players to adjust too.

Melbourne win 94-76, picking up 6.5 points by winning three quarters and splitting the second (I think that's how it works). Tigers won the second half 57-42!

Goulding had 31p on 12/18, 5a, 4r and 3s! Worthington had 15p and 4r, Ballinger 14p, 9r and 3b, Dennis 11p, 7a and 4r and Tomlinson 10p, 7a and 6r. Tigers shot 10/17 from deep and had 24 assists.

Abercrombie had 19p and 7r, Bruton 11p and 3a, Lazare 10p, 5r and 3a, Webster 10p, Vukona 9p, 7r and 4s. Breakers had 11or and only 10to but shot just 35% from the field.

Interesting statline if you compare the number of fouls each quarter with the number of points:

PF PTS
Q1: 12 - 41
Q2: 17 - 30
Q3: 9 - 64
Q4: 14 - 35

Linear transition, not sure what to make of it, unless if you consider the 3rd quarter to be when players got the hang of it, and 4th quarter was more likely to be tactical fouling and generally closing out the game.

That's a few great showings by Melbourne Tigers now, impossible not to be impressed. I expect we'll see them in finals.

don't read to much into pre-season games.
The Breakers have not been dominant in any pre-season tourney's and yet have won the last 3 titles.
Hawks beat them last season, the Tigers this season.

Paul - the inverse relationship between number of fouls and number of point might be explained by more intensive defence leading to both effects?

Ganymede - it probably won't take the Hawks players as long to adapt to the better reffing. They've always played a different style to the rest of the league. As a team, they've consistently averaged 4-5 fouls a game less than the league average.

Anyone at the game how did each teams new import PG look?

I personally predict Dennis to be one of the best players in the league, he seems to have the style of game, length, athleticism and versatility to do well in the NBL. He also has had a year or so out of college which i also think generally helps.

PeterJohn, I'm not going to guess without seeing the game, but was an interesting correlation.

Anon - Was at game last night and on the imports Dennis was clearly the best he just got in foul trouble the first half but ended up with 11pts 7ast. Quick and athletic not much of a shooter. He'll be one of the best imports this year. Morrison isn't that good but is a banger. Similar to Rickert but not quite as good.
Johnson is quick but doesn't have the athleticism to finish. Hes a good passer and doesn't try to do too much. Lazare was ok but was forced to play Centre. Pledger coming back will help

This series the average score was 83ppg. Average score of NZ v Perth games:

2012/13 - 76
2011/12 - 86
2010/11 - 90

So beats Perth v NZ last year, but not before that. It is the same story with NZ v Melbourne games the past three years:

2012/13 - 81
2011/12 - 84
2010/11 - 86

It's nice to see some reffing changes, but anyone using pre-season games to proclaim an upsurge in scoring is probably being a tad premature!

Please show me where there is a proclamation that the reffing changes saw an upsurge in scoring?

I merely stated it was nice to see a high score line thus the ball must have gone in the hole alot.

Not everyone on here tries to push agendas. It was nice to see a high score. SIMPLE
