13/14 Summer Team Placements

I can only assume that BSA is going with placing the strongest team in div2 where the spots haven't been filled by each association club.

Whether or not you agree with this direction -- but take the 'association clubs > Magic', or 'one team per club per division' view -- it obviously makes sense. But are these the right choices?

U12G - Forestville granted second div2 team.
Forestville won U10G div1 and all top age players from last season will play in U14 team 1/2. U10G div2 teams finished 5 & 6th (out of 10). Sturt won U12G div1/2/3... surely deserving a second team?

U14G - Sturt granted second div2 team.
Sturt won U12G div1/2/3, and finished runners up in U14G div1 & 3 while making div2 finals. Forestville were U12G div2 runners up and made div1 finals; won U14G div1/2/3, second div2 team finished 5th/12 (ahead of Sturt's second team) and div4 side were runners up... surely Forestville deserve the second team?

U16G - Magic granted div2 team.
Sturt would likely field a competitive bottom half side; arguable between Forestville and Magic as both would challenge for finals in div2. Forestville's third team will either experience a mass exodus and/or absolutely demolish div3.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but not currently liking how summer will shape up following these decisions.

BSA has it right - look at players and their history - it is the correct call and recognizes results 9which is what a lot of people have been asking for).

ever thought it could be what the clubs nominated ?

maybe BSA is trying to even the allocations out and asked the clubs to choose ?

you say both Fville and sturt won u10G d1 in your first paragraph ?

I thought Fville won u10s so it is correct if they are going to u12s D2.

Sturt in u14s is the correct call seeing they won u12 D1-2-3

western in u16s ? if their u16 from last season were 1st years (top 3 finish) it is the correct call - their u14 d2s finished bottom 3 or 4 and they had an average u14 D4 team.

sturt did not have a 3rd u16G team and Fvilles 3rd u16 team finished in the bottom 3rd -if anyone was to get it - would be Fville over sturt

Have a look what Div s the players are coming from and their history not what you think will happen.

time will tell results wise but it is the right call.

all argument for pro/rel

if a team did well in one grade / age group and players move up an age - you don't want the team they were in to go up but where they are going.

woodville rd, the experience of pro/rel in SA hasn't worked.

Games are blown out as much (some would say more so) then before it was introduced. Teams continue to be placed in Divisions (higher or lower) that they aren't competitive in.

Pro/Rel over Summer in SA where a number of players are now choosing to play just one of either Summer or Winter has created flawed results.

Also some clubs go through significant change (either growth or loss of players) over 12 months which makes previous results from 2 years prior inaccurate. This leads to teams starting in incorrect Pools and due to the current limitations of the grading process they don't climb or fall enough to find a competitive grade for Winter.

Firstly,

No way should a MAGIC team be placed in a Div 2 competition in front of the true 10 district clubs!

Secondly it is a bit of hit and miss in placing teams in summer season but this is looked at again post summer season and some movements can occur in Div 2 where there are two teams or a free spot.

For those who believe they should be higher just go out and dominate over summer. Don't worry about humiliating the other teams in the process - you need to do this to get the message through to the Competitions Committee where you should be placed.
As for Magic....a certain Commissioner should realise that their role is for the betterment of basketball as a whole and is not a position to be abused for the hidden agenda of one club!!

Does magic get the d2 spot ahead of second member club teams? Thought magic was d 3-4-5 club?

Apparently Magic was given a Div 2 spot in U16G in front of member clubs. Personally it should have gone to Forestville's third team and have Magic play in Div 3

bsa should grow some balls and just kick magic out of the competition it would make the entire competition stronger as those kids who are worthy of playing div 1/2 would actually get the chance to play div 1/2

no problem with magic if woodville were full but it is not the case - woodies hemorrhaging - particularly female players

Fair point, woodville rd, but most of forestville's u10g will slot straight into u12 div1, the remainder in the second team. Most of the u12 div1/2 girls from last season have moved up an age group. U10 info had little relevance for a third team, but thought it would be worthwhile to mention for context.

If sturt won u12 div1/2/3 and have priority for placement in u14, why don't forestville have priority in u16 when they won div1/2/3? This logic isn't consistently applied by BSA.

Forestville's top age players in u14 div2/3 are stronger than sturts equivalent top age players based on u14 results from last season.

Magic definitely had a few first years in u16 last season, so this is justified. Although, Forestville's second u16 team will be predominantly u14 div1s and possibly a few that played in u16 team 2 will move down to u16 team 3 due to the very strong influx of u14s. The bottom age in last seasons u16g team 3 were actually the stronger players compared to the top agers. There is very little separating magic and forestville is my point.

You're utilizing a contradictory mix of past result in the same and lower age group to justify bsa's decisions. Why?
