In the NBL i loved Bobby Locke for a guy so small he had amazing hops.In SEABL it was Eric Atkins or as we called in Super E.His alley oops were out of control.

Old School NBL - Emery Atkinson, awesome athleticism and power.

Calvin Talfor had huge hops as did Joe Hurst when he first came here.

for any that saw him - Howard Shockley. built like Mark Dalton but with legs as well as shoulders, and huge arms -

no run up , just straight up, read the small writing on the sticker on the top of the backboard, and come down "when it feels right man" .

From a standing start - Grabbing the ball off the backboard/ring well above the ring - while he and the ball were on the way up -, and then in the same motion dunking the ball two handed on his way down ( with malice - and his arms almost horizontal at his shoulders and to the ring because he was being boxed out the whole time ) .

The look of absolute awe on the bloke who was actually boxing him out - just not far enough "out" was not funny - cos no one was laughing

never saw anything like it before, have never seen its equal since.

I recall that when Bennett Davidsonfirst arrived in the NBL he was one of the best Dunkers we had ever seen. Also Trimmingham, Talford, James Smith for Brisbane.

Fikes was the best at State League level by far.

Leon Trimmingham was my favourite player in the the few years he played for the kings, the Alabama slammer used to spring up quickly off two feet without any steps.

Best dunk I have ever seen in NBL was Sam Mackinnon I think playing for Magic against Newcastle where he curl cut to the rim and dunked over Ben Melmeth, I got it on tape at home somewhere

Agree with Kent Brockman, Billy Fikes by a street.

Most memorable dunk was Darnell Mee's Statue of Liberty dunk on Simon Dwight.

LOL @ Moses!

Best NBL dunker was Jumpin' Joe Hurst. The man had serious hops. Terrific bloke too and still living in Australia. Was still playing basketball last year in country Victoria as well and may even still be going.

Shayno Allen McCowan now that's a name I haven't heard for a while that guy could get up.

I personal think Steve Leven would be one of the best Dunkers ever coming from the Australian shores for sure. I know there were always problems around him but the guy could down right get up like very few in Australia.

Sammy Mac the best in the NBL from an Australian stand point, Trimmingham as for a import for sure

I agree Ismail Mohammad was a beast at the dunk, if he got an NBL gig we would have seen more highlights and the league would have been that much more exciting with a player like him in it...!

#440735 - My theory is that coaches in the NBL have not been looking for the type of player that can bring the dunk into their game plan.

They have in recent times preferred to go with players that 'fit their system' to maybe win games by playing good defense, in their designed roles within the overall team structure.

Makes for slightly less exciting games, something which is being rectified with the new philosophy of the NBL I believe...

I've just read through this and I'm surprised no one has mentioned two of the best ever in the NBL. The "Alabama Slamma" James Crawford and his long-time Wildcats partner in crime Kendall "Tiny" Pinder.

Those two could throw down like no ones business.

I guess I'm getting old if I am able to remember those two in their prime.

Go easy on the 'partner in crime' part there.
