Hey LC,
As a general question.
Has an Aussie every won the Men's NCCA Basketball Tournament?
(I know Schenscher & Gaze have played in the final in a losing side)

Just wondering as Mangok MATHIANG is playing for the defending champions this year - rank number 4th in the pre season poll & New Mexico is currently rank 20th.

Not to my knowledge.

AFAIK Gaze went the closest with Seton Hall in going down in the National Championship game.

justin brown at UConn was in the same boat as Mangok MATHIANG.

Justin's first year was the 1998-1999 season, during which he "red shirted" (did not play).

Justin Brown was a Center for the UConn Huskies from 1998 - 2003. He was a player on the first UConn National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Team in 1999.

My All-Aussie NCAA Awards are now up on PnR.

Some tough choices were made for my 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams. Always a hard call or two to make.

What a year it was.

The term 'roller coaster’ would be an understatement to describe the season as we went from the defending champion to experiencing an identity crisis, stealing a couple of games on the road, to losing the unthinkable. From the Sidelines: Observations by an Aussie coach in the NCAA

One of those also trying to make their mark as a coach in the NCAA is Western Australian Michael Clarke. Clarke has kindly provided his own insights into Division I college hoops exclusively for The Pick and Roll after completing his first year with Virginia Commonwealth men's basketball program. This is his take.
