League Relegation and Promotion System

Thought people might find this article interesting about the promotion and relegation system in local football and making leagues competitive for all teams.Something maybe for Big V to consider.

Its a nice thought but Big V have never subscribed to that kind of system as logical as it may appear.
They've always maintained the "peoples League" mantra or "user chooser" method where Clubs determine where they want to enter.

At times this has led to some very unbalanced divisions and confusing standards across the leagues.

Do Big V clubs have too much power resulting in unbalanced divisions?

That comment is at odds with other comments that have been made on this forum, which are that the league determines where people play, but the clubs decides who joins the league (basically). A great example is that apparently a number of clubs were not happy when the league reintroduced conferences but the league went ahead and did it anyway. It was not decided by the members.

Happy Days, I was talking about the old BigV forum yesterday and Promo/Relegation used to be discussed regularly there.

At the time, the league office poster on the forum as to why the league should not introduce hard promotion / relegation - they were really good debates.

The Clubs have too much say.

Half the reason the State Champ Div doesn't get showcased more over and above the other divisions is because the Clubs control the direction of the promotion of the league.

When you have a situation where 3/4 of the votes are held by clubs that DO NOT participate in SC then it only stands to reason it will never get the top billing it needs or deserves and also is the reason its hard to differentiate between all the leagues from a hierarchy perspective.

HO, its really interesting topic which isn't just a basketball issue but a football issue as well. In our region, AFL is set up geographically where the clubs argue that there supporters dont travel more than 30 mins from home. On the flip side of that we have the strong clubs and the weak clubs. The weak clubs stating that before the season even starts the chances of them making the finals are remote. The leagues respnse to that is spend more money therefore creating an arms race.

I have given an example above that disproves (in part) your theory. Again, my understanding was that moving back into a conference mode was something that clubs did not want and had it been put to a vote would not have got up. But, it did happen. I also understand that many clubs were unhappy about CB being put straight into championships. Both decisions made by the league, not by the clubs.

You keep saying it, but can you actually substantiate it? I am not entirely sure what you are getting at with the promotion stuff. Are you saying the clubs sit in a room with the promotional plan for the year and vote on it? Seriously? Or are you just griping that the league doesn't do something you want them to do and using the clubs as your excuse for that? what you are saying does not actually "stand to reason" at all.
