College coach gives it to his players in the press

I can't stop laughing at this press conference with Southern Illinois' College Coach, Barry Hinson.

Not a big fan of the rant.

Some aspects of it are good, some are out of line.

If the guys aren't hustling/dont have the work ethic then fair enough get stuck into them. But things like TOs and missed shots you could attribute to the other teams good defence.

I guess i cant sympathise with the players having played D1 basketball. The pressure is no joke. But above ball you are a Student and second of all you are an amateur coach..programs shouldnt lose sight of that.

Such errors. Wow. Most corrections

You're right in some regards, mac. Think about the following though:

- This kind of pressure is what the players signed up for. College sports is a serious business

- Southern Illinois has had a terrible season. 2-7 was their worst start in 20 years. After this game, they're 2-8. Referring to my first point, it's serious and the players signed on knowing that the pressure and responsibility is very high. Of course the coach is going to rip them if they weren't doing what they were supposed to (we don't know, we didn't watch the game)

- These kinds of rants make great viewing for the whole family

- It gives us some great quotes to drop at the workplace watercooler tomorrow

I thought it was sheer brilliance.. Sometimes this is what players need to get the fire in the gut to go and prove him wrong.

The wife comment gold.

The dog comment, not so cool I thought.

May be a bit demoralising to the players.

Is this an SNL skit? Maybe this guy as Head Coach and Toronto Mayor as his Assistant Coach would make a pretty good comedy sketch

Good stuff. I don't think the dog comment was too bad as it was in the context of puppy training, not calling the player a 'dog'. I was getting a bit bored with it then the 'sniper' comments picked it up again.

When I said doge, I meant doge.

Its a meme reference to Statsheet's "Such errors. Wow. Most corrections"

The coach used a 'dog reference' and Statsheet made a reference to a meme based on a dog.

Not sure if deliberate double-entendre brilliance or mere coincidence.
