Demetriou to step down from AFL at season's end

Andrew Demetriou's reign as AFL supremo will end after the 2014 season.

Mike Fitzpatrick, Chairman of the AFL Commission, announced Demetriou's resignation at a press conference which began at 10am at AFL House.
Demetriou said that he had told the AFL Commission of his decision at a meeting on the 17th of February. He said it had been a "privilege and an honour" to serve the game, but the league "needs renewal, needs a fresh set of eyes".

Off to run the Australian Open has been the very poorly kept word in Melbourne. Sick of the drugs and dramas in the AFL and sees Tennis as an easy gig.

Bad news for him if that's the case, tennis is rife with drugs and administrators have comfortably ignored it through lax testing.

I understood he was off to run some International tennis body - one of the two I thought.

Very funny about getting him to run basketball. Even if the sport could afford him he would not take it because it would be too much of a challenge.

LOL... Nadal Djokovic and the rest will be found out one day wouldn't want to be anywhere near the sport.
