SEABL 2014

Well the season's about to start, the news on teams has been very quiet, very few media releases from the usual big talkers, no media guide yet, who's playing for who??

Titus Robinson playing Big V this year. Thought he wasn't signed again by Pioneers because he was playing D League?

One of Knox imports is Eric Williams, from Corio Bay Big V and prior to that Nunawading. they will be tough.

Daniel Johnson or Daniel Jackson?

Article on SEABL website says that Danial Jackson has signed for the Gunners, but nothing about Daniel Johnson

Knox + Imports x 2 - Shanahan = shit.

The team he had last year were 5 times conference finalist and finished last. He cannot coach - that is all.

Shanahan hasn't had the best coaching record at the ABA level. He did have a win in the second division up in NSW....but down in victoria never seems to have gone that well or got the respect of to many of his former players.

They will be interesting to watch this year as on paper they have a solid top 5/6 players.

Any other news from other clubs?

I hear Sandy trying to pick up another NBL evel talent as they are a bit thin on the ground.

Why is it taking so long for Knox to make an announcement regarding there imports.Williams makes no mention of heading here on his twitter page.

Can every SEABL 2014 thread not get turned into a Knox bashing, Shanahan bashing thread. There's about 15 other teams people can discuss.

Geelong looking like they will be there abouts this season. will be interesting to see what difference having gaff in the middle will make to a team not know for its defence?

Eastern conference at end of last season shows Geelong Supercats percentage and indicates they are pretty good defensively. Their emphasis on full court pressure and the fact that they force other teams into turning the ball over consistently contradicts any perception that they are not defense orientated.

BENDIGO 28 22 6 78.57 WWWWL 106.52
GEELONG 28 22 6 78.57 WWWWL 110.34

Brisbane putting together a strong team this year.

Teys, CJ, Kenny strong guard combo....then with henifin at the 3/4 could be a good team to watch.

Only weakness is at the centre position but George can hold the spot down pretty well so they could be good.

Depth an issue but if they don't get injuries they could have a deep playoff run

It's been a very slow off-season for news & announcements which probably hasn't been helped by Ed leaving the SEABL media role.

SEABL media has been very sluggish and little momenetum coming into the season proper.Hardly any interviews and most of the info gleaned from local papers.Makes you appreciate the job Ed did.

Pioneers team looks legit for another shot at the title

Tom Dayl
Erik Burdon
Brad Hill
Damian Johnson
Ben Allen
Matt Sutton
Jan Warbout
Lukass Blicavs

with the balance made up of some promining local kids.

Pioneers have a very solid core and should be around the top couple of teams in there conference....final position might come down to the earlier results before the NBL guys come back to play or the shape the nbl guys return in.

Any word on Frankston around the league? I heard they knocked off Geelong a few weeks back.. Although jt it was only a praccy game, good win for them to get early on in the year!

All in all, the league is looking as strong as ever, if not stronger! Very hard to say who will make up the top 4 in each conference with any certainty.

Interesting that some view geelong as playing no defense. Where does this come from? Is it a hang over from Leader days when they played a 2-3 zone all the way to several conference titles and a national title? Zone doesn't = no defense.
The last 4 years they have played a real mix of defenses and led the league in forced turnovers.

Yes, I don't see a great deal of difference in the overall strength of the league from what we've seen in recent years. A few clubs like Knox & Hobart are moving into a rebuilding era but there will always be a handful of teams moving up & down the ladder from season to season as coaches & players change.

A few teams should be fun to wacth this year....i'm keen to see the following teams as i expect them to play exciting bball.

Bendigo - Good import combo could be a few highlight reels!

Nunawading - Once creek gets on board could see him having a huge year...can't wait to see Macdonald feeding him in the right areas!

Geelong - Like the import pariing and good local content

Brissy - intereing to see how they fit together but plenty of scoring so be fun to watch.

SEABL media has always been amateur, but also always saved by its high volume of releases. Seems that even the latter is missing lately.
