BSA Rescheduling Fri 11th games to Support Sixers

District Basketball Games Postponed In Support of Adelaide 36ers Finals Campaign

JUST POSTED ON BSA WEBSITE - EXCELLENT BSA

The Adelaide 36ers will make their first appearance in the NBL Grand Final Series since 2002 and will play their only home game for the series at Adelaide Arena against the Perth Wildcats on Friday April 11 at 7pm.

Given the significance of this event to the South Australian Basketball Community, Basketball SA will postpone all District Basketball Games that are scheduled on Friday April 11 in order to enable as many of our members as possible to attend this historic game and support our State's elite men’s basketball team.

Basketball SA considers this event to be extremely significant to our entire basketball community and while we recognise this exceptional scheduling change may inconvenience some of our participants we hope that our members will embrace the occasion, put their support behind the Adelaide 36ers and help them win the championship for South Australia.

The postponed games will be re-scheduled for Sunday May 4 2014 and a full draw will be available soon.

Well common sense may well prevail but what is the impact on friday night div 1/2? For at least 2 clubs (south and mavs) with another postponed game? With Easter, school holidays that makes it three games in total before the junior champs. Mavs games that were postponed due to Mt Barker show are still tba. There has to be a point where Hoops SA keyboard warriors stop influencing the whole BSA comp to the point where it compromises the entire winter comp. Don't forget the the postponed games (round 4) will potentially cause all sorts of problems with qualification for junior champs with players possibly playing div 2/3 in round 4 and missing out on div 1 for JC. How is BSA dealing with the complications?

"Don't forget the the postponed games (round 4) will potentially cause all sorts of problems with qualification for junior champs with players possibly playing div 2/3 in round 4 and missing out on div 1 for JC. How is BSA dealing with the complications?"

1. Why would a division 1 player be playing div 2 or even div 3 in the lead up to State Champs?
2. Why does the postponing of the round specifically cause these players an issue?

"With Easter, school holidays that makes it three games in total before the junior champs."

3. Actually it's 4 games, which is the same for everyone. What's your point?

I think postponing was common sense - but to the Sunday before State Champs? Just ridiculous.

It's not the Sunday before State Champs.

There's a weekend in between.

Happy to corrected.

Players play in lower divs covering illnesses and injuries and rotations.

I understand that round 4 team sheets provide the player names that are then registered for JC. Postponed round 4 games may throw some curve balls for some clubs.

Some clubs now have 2 postponed games to squeeze in before JC. JC is hard enough without having two extra games in the 10 days before hand with significant risk of injury to players.

How many Friday night players are actually going to the 36ers game?

Perplexed,

That is the $64 question. Most I have spoken to at our club say no as it is too expensive for a family

SA Junior Championship Rules:

"6. Player Eligibility
All players must be registered with Basketball SA.

"For a player to be eligible to represent a club or association, the player must have played in a minimum of 3 games in competitions/tournaments either representing the club/association or run by the club/association, in the period since October 1
prior to the Championships.

"Players that have played a game in division one of the current Junior District season in the three rounds prior to the Championships, will be ineligible to play in a Reserve grade."

You were close, but not quite correct.

I doubt many (if any) division 1 players would be playing in division 2 or 3 to cover injuries, especially this early in the season. But if they are, they wouldn't be disadvantaged (see above).

The round 1 matches for Mavs and South teams may not be rescheduled prior to State Champs - not sure why it is assumed they would be.

The number of players attending the 36ers game can't really be determined until tickets are sold to members and the general public. BSA is simply providing families the opportunity, which I'm sure many till take advantage of.

Well done BSA. There will now be 5 extra people at the Sixers game. If junior games had been on none of us would've been able to go.

Maybe only 100 extra people get to attend the game as a result of the rescheduling, but there would still be hundreds of people who are now free to support the team and watch the game on TV.

Would they play junior footy games on the day the Crows or Power next make the GF, which is played in another city?

Hard one there Jimmy as all footy is finished by the time the AFL GF is played besides SANFL and then there games are often changed to suit the AFL Finals.
