Damian Martin wins NBL Best Defensive Player

Stand-out player with a great season. Anyone keen to argue against his selection?

Awesome- well deserved by Damo! He sets the benchmark for his team at the defensive end!

I think arguing against that selection would be like walking into The Alberton Hotel and saying "Port Adelaide don't deserve to be in the AFL"

The game where he posted 18 Pt, 8a 8r 5s, all whilst sacrificing nothing from his D, was just phenomenal, one of the best single-game performances by a player this season.

His work in Gm 2 of the SFs against Rotnei Clarke was peerless. I don't think there's a person in this league that can simply destroy a player's game, one-on-one, like Damo does.

To borrow further from Jack's AFL reference, Damo is like if you took Ryan Crowley, made him a gentleman, gave him a really solid offensive game, unlimited hustle, and then turned him lose to wreck game-plans with a grin.

This was probably the easiest choice of the night.

What typified it for me was his effort against Adelaide during the Wildcats first loss of the season. Martin chased down a runaway Gary Ervin, blocked his layup and then chased the ball down and kept it in play before it went over the sideline. And he managed to get it to a team mate.

That's the sort of defensive effort he puts up in pretty much every game.

And IIRC (I was there), the crowd at the Adelaide Arena that night saw his effort for what it was and he actually received applause for it, even though he plays for Perth.

Yep. Love watching this guy play. First player you would pick to take into the trenches.
