Thon Maker as NBA MVP

Don't worry I know it is a controversial heading but I am not the first to say it.

Bill Simmons from grantland.com and ESPN and NBA Countdown etc mentions it very briefly in below article.

http://grantland.com/features/fixing-the-nba-playoffs/

It is buried deep in the story and anyone familiar with his style will know a lot of his stuff is deliberately amusing and conversational but people will also know he often has good insights into how the NBA actually works. He is talking about James and Durant being MVP candidates for next few years and then possibly Griffin, Davis and Curry and then throws Thon Maker in there. It is written such that he expects his readers might not have heard of Maker.

My points are really a question of is Thon Maker really that good, can people see him being a genuine star and will he play for Australia?

No one could possibly know, not even Maker himself. Guys like Simmons will always throw an unknown in for the sake of his job. IF he strikes it on one of these potentials, then he looks like a genuius if not, was just an opinion.

He is very thin and is playing High School basketball. Anyone who is 7ft tall and playing High School basketball will dominate.

Simmons is obviously underestimating his potential by a long way....

A cross between Hasheem Thabeet, LaRue Martin and Pervis Ellison?

Simmons has jumped the shark with his career. He's now stretched way to thin and his once accurately researched opinions are now game show guess work!

Ater Majok 2.0... this guy won't be any good. He doesn't have the type of frame that can put on mass and shoots around %35 against players half a foot shorter, and two years younger, than him.

IMHO

^^Latrentis. To "stretch too thin" is said of a person who tries to do many things at the same time and cannot give enough time or attention to any of them.

Podcasts, NBA countdown, Grantland, hosting, writing, production.

His keen insight and smart, inovative, opinions are less and less.

That is the curse of becoming successful within the ESPN family. The money keeps flowing in the more you do but at the same time quality of output decreases.

Too early to tell he still has 2 years of high school left. The Ater Majok comparison probably a bit unfair though.
