My team is:

Dellevadova Exum
Mills Newley Goulding
Ingles Simmons
Bairstow D.Johnson Motum
Baynes Ogilvy

Ive gone for youth over experience in preparation for Olympics etc.

Should get good court coverage with this team given many can play multiple positions.

Really great lineup!!

Nasty lineup. Going to do some damage.

Nice squad phillip. I really like it.

I would probably take Jawai over one of Johnson or Motum. I think we will need another big as both Baynes and Ogilvy are quite foul prone.

For the record, I am one of the few people who actually think Bogut is going to play in Spain. He said recently it was 50/50, depending on how his body felt/recovered. Given he only played 67 regular season games at 27 minutes per game, and zero playoff games, he should feel just fine!

To add to the above post, the fact that the next World Cup isn't for five years, would also come into consideration. This could be the last chance he gets at a World Cup. Also, he has always stated his intention to play in Rio, so the World Cup is a chance to play with and build familiarity/relationships with the new core guys, and also the young guys coming through.

I like the team Phillip..

I would prob like to have Maric and Anderson in there though as seasoned European vets who can handle some the big europe teams.

I agree with daneo, Maric would be a good selection. Could play 2/3 in this team depending on rotation. Another future Boomer I think.

Simmons is still 16, I would leave him out for the moment.

My team thus far.

Delly
Mills
Ingles
Petrie
Jawai
Goulding
Newley
Exum
Anderson
Baynes
Motum or Bairstow
Anthony Drmic/Cam Gliddon (basically a shooter)

Is he? but would he be ready to play his position against men? I suppose I would bring him into camp but what I saw at last years NZ series I dont think either Exum or Simmons are ready for a major tournament

A lot can change in a year. Ben is 6'10", 235 pounds now. Look historically how much the 11th and 12th guys play in a major tournament (think Adam Gibson and Peter Crawford in London) - Exum and Simmons can give you those minutes.

There has been a lot of focus on how old Simmons and Exum are but I would get them in even as 11/12 men because there is no doubt in 5 years time our team will be built around them.

Exum is going to a top 5 NBA draft pick this year. You are kidding me if you don't think he's ready. Even if it is in a 11-12th man role

I thought Simmons was older than Exum? Bring him along in a 12th man role.

I agree Jawai/maric are close to selection, guess it depends on team balance / chemistry.

So is this a team you want or team that you think will play?

People are kidding if they think that Exum shouldn't be on the team. Enough with this 'he isn't ready' bullcrap. I'd have Simmons on the team aswell as a 11/12th man

my preferred team

Pg - Dellavadova
Sg - Mills
Sf - Ingles
pf - Bairstow
C - Baynes

Bench - Jawai, Exum, Motum, Goulding, Broekhoff, Anderson, Simmons

I don't have Newley because honestly i don't rate him. I haven't seen him play club basketball since his days in the NBL but whenever he plays for Aus he can't shoot for shit and has terrible basketball iq.

In olympic trials s nz 2012, Newley was our mvp. He also picks up euro gigs at good teams year after year.

^^ unless injured Newley is a lock.

Vart, Bogut currently has fractured ribs (located over his lungs) so maybe not feeling so fine! But I truely hope he heals in time and plays because he puts us into medal calculations..

I know that he plays for high profile teams in Europe but every time i see him play for Aus he's constantly bricking shots and turning the ball over. I actually cringe when he gets passed the ball.

Some may say we're overrating Bairstow but he just left a huge impression of me in that New Mexico system alongside Kirk. Some of those games against San Diego State were absolute wars and he stood up.

I think he can be like a David West for the Boomers.

Simmons and Exum are bananas. Get them in now and lock them in for the boomers for the next 15 years! Mad ballers.

Here's to hoping you are right about Bogut, Vart!

I think Baynes, Ingles, Mills, Dellavedova and Exum are locks for the team. Provided David Andersen is still performing well, I would expect him to make it as well.

Newley, not quite a lock IMO, but very likely. Goulding I think has played his way onto the team with the season he has had.

I like what I've seen of Bairstow so far and I think he could well make the team if he trains well.

If Bogut plays, that leaves two spots. One I think should go to Simmons, even if he is not ready to play much of a role yet. The kid has so much potential and is almost certain to be a long-term starter for the Boomers down the road.

For the other spot I think DJ is worth another look to see if he could take on Andersen's stretch four role in time. You could also look at Broekhoff or Gliddon as well.

If Bogut doesn't play then I think Jawai, Ogilvy and Maric should fight it out for that spot.

To sum up:

Bogut Baynes DJ
Bairstow Andersen Simmons
Ingles Newley
Mills Goulding
Dellavedova Exum

On the cusp: Jawai, Ogilvy, Maric, Broekhoff, Gliddon

It all comes down to how coach runs the team.

If he runs a core group/rotation of 8 or so players for key games, then the team can handle 1-2 development type players. If he wants to try and share minutes ala Brett Brown, then he needs to choose 12 "ready now offers something now" players. Simmons would only get a look in if he wanted to blood him in preparation for 2016.

For mine, locks are right now if fit and available:

Bogut
Mills
Delly
Baynes
Ingles
Newley
Andersen

Then picking the remainder from an extended squad of;
Goulding
Broekhoff
Petrie
Maric
Jawai
D Martin
Gibson
Worthington
Ogilvy
Bairstow
Motum
Exum
Drmic
Greenwood
Simmons

Nevill for mine does not make the training squad. Playing in Taiwan does nothing for me or for him.

I wouldn't think Andersen is a lock.

We could potentially let Lemanis pick the best form, healthy players who earn their spots in training camp.

LC, even if Lemais runs 10 players, I think there is still room to sit Simmons on the end of the bench. I'd really like to see him go for the experience.

WTF is Nevill doing in Taiwan?!?! I assumed he'd go to a decent league when he left the NBL. Hopefully a team will bring him back to the NBL next season. He's not super-mobile but he has great size and can use it well if given the chance. Townsville and the Hawks could definitely use his size!

Obviously, one of the major problems with Bogut not being available, the boomers miss shot blocking and rebounding. Baynes should def. be on the squad and is okay as a rebounder and shot blocker but not great as he doesn't have great length. a similar problem for Bairstow who should also be included. Andersen and Ogilvy suffer the same deficiencies in this area, despite having adequate height and length are far too soft to be an effective presence or rebounders. Jawai really is the only one who can be an effective rim protector and rebounder, despite not being the most effective or persistent defender.
