Should Kevin Garnett retire?

I think he should consider it. I think Garnett's conservative approach has been one of he's greatest assets of his career. And the fact he fought to stay in Minnesota and Boston suggest that longevity helped he's career in terms of stability, loyalty and legacy. But playing for a third team and being way past your prime never made sense.

And Shaq jumping from team to team and ending up playing for six teams in he's career hurt he's legacy to some extent. Particularly, with many of he's last teams he was way past he's prime. I also think if Karl Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon had their time over again, they would of not played for Toronto and Los Angeles respectively.

Charles Barkley "It's better to go out too soon. Then too late".

From what I can tell, he's guaranteed $6m now or gets the $12m if he's not waived by July.

Depends what matters to him. Didn't hear too many flattering comments about his play-off games so his body is about done for NBA level but maybe they can get some value off the bench from him. He still gets minutes so must be more capable than half of their other options. If the Nets' run is done, they might as well bring through the next PF.

Who's that? Plumlee? Teletovic?

Maybe they can get Greg Monroe.

Barkley played on a year too long too, all the great ones do.

Don't forget when Shaq was in Phoenix he averaged like 18ppg & 8rpg in 08/09 (his 17th season) was All-NBA 3rd Team and co-All-Star game MVP that year.

His one season in Cleveland where he had a reduced role due to LeBron and then his final season in Boston were where his game & then body shut down.

Garnett's done but he would be stupid to leave $12m on the table.

Just a frustrating year for a Nets supporter like myself.

Still think the appointment of Kidd was a major mistake.

When you assemble a team to win now, it doesn't make sense hiring a coach for the future.

Often it largely comes down to the contract and $$$, whilst they are under contract for millions of $$ they will keep playing, and who would blame them, id do the same thing.

As said above 'keep getting them cheques'

I think the Nets went wrong when they hired the draft class of 1883 as their stars.....

Pierce still has some legs but KG doesn't have much left in the tank by the looks of it. Occasional flashes of the old KG but time has wearied him.

Blatche, Pumblee, Tele - there's alot to like from those guys though.

But D Will and Johnson are hot and cold to extremes and Lopez isn't a cert of being anywhere near his old self next season. Nets are going to be busy this FA period.

people seem to be forgetting one B. Lopez??? bye bye Kevin, say hello to a youthful C/PF combo of Lopez, Blatche, Plumlee, and a stretch 4 in Teletovic

Just read that he deferred some of his salary $35 mil over the next 7 years after he stops playing or something like that so money won't be a factor

I hope KG retires. He's still a very solid defensive player, but he hasn't been a good two way player for a couple years now. KG without his agility around the basket and money mid-range jumper is just depressing to watch.

He's also been saying for a couple of years that he goes through a helluva regime just to get his body right for every game. I just don't think he has the same passion when he pulls on that Nets jersey as he did with the Celtics.

The Nets have some problems moving forward, but at least their front-court is looking pretty solid. Lopez, Blatche, Teletovic and Plumlee is a skilled and versatile rotation for Kidd to work with.

Major problems with Deron though. Unless he can resolve his ankle issues he is going to be an untradable $62mill millstone around Brooklyn's neck for the next 3 seasons!

Malone averaged 13, 8, 4 in his season at the Lakers. Don't think he would be too upset about that considering the injuries, age and players around him. Shaqs legacy hasn't been damaged either.
KG is very good for the nets to keep for the last year of the contract if he's coming off the bench and being utilised in a mentor role to the young bigs they have. Off the bench with 15-20 minutes a game he could be awesome just for the short spurts instead of long drawn out periods.

Statsheet Stuffer, thought Blatche was considered a bit questionable in terms of court IQ?

Apparently he's opting out of his deal to try for something better than $1.4m. From ESPN:

Blatche expressed interest in returning to Brooklyn for a third season, but the Nets will likely wait to see how the rest of their roster shapes up before making Blatche a priority.

Read some stuff yesterday that suggested Deron is their big issue and called him "mentally fragile". Can't really see who'd take on that contract?!

Lopez is the big ?. Will he come back like Big Z after the same surgery, or will he just continue to breakdown further like Yao did.

Couldn't argee more. If Arenas is still getting around no point KG hanging them up. Unless he wants to move on to another career which is his choice.

Blatche is definitely the most skilled out of Plumlee, Teletovic and himself. He got a lot more burn in the regular season, didn't notice it dipped in the postseason, just assumed he was next in line.

Starting his career in the same locker room as Gilbert Arenas probably wouldn't help that court IQ.

Its his decision, if he still enjoys playing and someone signs him... Good on him, keep playing.

SS,

No way is Blatche more skilled than Teletovic. Blatche is a draft bust why the Wizards punted him and is getting around on minimum contracts, Teletovic is arguably the best 3pt shooting big man in the NBA and signed a 2 year deal for more than $6.5m straight out of Europe.

KG loves the cash, he is the all time #1 earner in the NBA and will prolong it as the bulk money is like a drug.
