Would be a good move and consistent with what they do with their playing roster.

Ettore Messina (born 30 September 1959) is an Italian professional basketball coach, currently the assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs. He has won four Euroleague championships as a head coach. Messina is regarded as one of the best European basketball coaches, having been named in 2008 one of the 50 Greatest Euroleague Contributors.
Coming from CSKA Moscow.

Wikipedia already lists him as a Spurs assistant, from 2014 onwards.

Nice.

Will that move Sean Marks back into strictly office operations?

Good move...will help them continue to pick up Euroleague bargins and hidden gems to fill out the roster.

Also great basketball mind and is very well thought of.

I don't think it will move Marks back to the front office. NBA teams obviously have several (4-5 I think) assistant coaches. The Spurs just want more experience and a insurance incase Popivich retires suddenly.

This signing makes sense, more so for San Antonio than any other franchise. They should get the most out of his abilities.

Sean Marks was a part of the Spurs' front office?

He was in the 2012-13 season, then he moved to their coaching staff.
