Luc Longley's coaching background?

Luc Longly is an asst coach to the Boomers? What is his coaching back ground? I am not aware of him coaching at a senior level.

It's not always about just having a coaching background. Different Assistant Coaches have different roles. Marty and Gleeson have the x's and o's more than covered. Luc's role I guess would be giving the bigs some pointers, working with the players directly and providing mentoring and guidance on elite participation for an athlete.

What an amazing coaching staff!!!!!

I would question Davidson's role as national shooting coach. Working with juniors on their talend ID and development, yet no coaching background with juniors. Did very little coaching ABL. Might have developed into a fantastic coach but clearly out of his depth in the current role.

EBut if Davidsons role is talent ID and shooting it's not exactly coaching is it, so how can you say he's out of his depth. If all he's doing is working with juniors to improve their shot and identifying those who have the potential, think he's qualified, he was a hard worker during his career, he wasn't a natural, so he can recognise a kid who's got the right work ethics over a kid who's got a bit of talent and tall unlike his predessessor Mike Mc McHugh, sometimes it's not what they have done but more what they can do in a role. Luke Longley is a good example of that, his experience alone at an elite level and longevity in the sport would be invaluable

True. What you raise there is fairly insignificant though in relation to what would be the job description for this role.

Great playing career, admired by many. In his prime you'd pick him on your team as a great role player, hard worker and team man. What does that have to do with national shooting coach and talent ID? If the person requirements were merely to be a hardworking athlete as you seem to imply then just pick Craig Mottram (Olympic long distance runner) to take on this role.

The playing career gives you a good base to begin with but it would be nice to see someone in this role actually have some runs on the board and qualifications relevent to the role.

Visually analysing and breaking down shooting issues, knowing the key teaching points that are most effective for different athletes, understanding the biomechanics in different individuals in the age group that impact their shooting technique and having a broad knowledgebank of good, average and poor shooters in the age group you are aiming to teach takes experience. In such an important role surely you'd need to demonstrate proven success, knowledge and capabilities in similar roles and the role of playing nbl basketball has very little to do in this role. Being an average shooter, great guy, with an amazing work ethic as a player is good but has little to do with this role.

How can you identify 16/17 yr olds that will represent the coutnry if you have little experience at doing this previously? What do you benchmark talented kids in this age bracket against if you have little knowledge and experience in the area? What skillsets/fundamentals do the best 16/17 yr olds need to have that will see them succeed at the highest level? How can you know this if you've never identified or developed them before?

I think with Luc Longley's role with the Boomers he probably fits it perfectly.

Key to a good coaching staff is putting the right people into the right slots.

You can't have 5 guys all with crazy resumes as head coaches and expect a fit, everyone needs to accept a role.

I could see Longley fitting well in the one/one stuff with players. Davidson as well working with certain guys on key skills/fits for the system.

Even USA bball do it well with certain coaches responsabe for certain things or being experts in a certain area of the game that is required to win at FIBA level.

i.e Coach K - Oversees/Off
Thibs - Def
Boehiem - Zone expert & Off
Williams - Def/player deveplopment (Bridges the generation gap)
