My 2016 Olympic Australian Boomers team

AUSTRALIAN BOOMERS 2016 Olympic Team

Matthew Dellavedova 24 (26)
Patty Mills 26 (28)
Andrew Bogut 30 (32)
Aron Baynes 28 (30)
Joe Ingles 27 (29)

Dante Exum 19 (21)
Ryan Broekhoff 24 (26)
Cameron Bairstow 24 (26)
Brock Motum 24 (26)
Ben Simmons 18 (20)

Chris Goulding 26 (28)
Brad Newley 29 (31)

Providing all players stay in the NBA, that would give us 9 NBA players!

Plenty of time for Thon Maker down the track.

Thoughts?

9 NBA Players! They would surely just give you a medal for that wouldn't they?

I only count 8 NBA players. Who is the 8th or are we assuming Simmons will be an automatic draft pick.

What month is the Olympics in 2016?

Simmons should be a draft pick by the time the tournament starts

Only 3 lineups in my opinion.

dellavedova/exum
Mills/broekhoff/Goulding
Ingles/simmons
Baynes/motum/bairstow
Bogut/Maric

Or

Dellavedova/exum
Mills/broekoff/Goulding
Ingles/newley/simmons
Motum/bairstow
Bogut/baynes

Or

Dellavedova/exum
Mills/broekhoff
Ingles/Newley/simmons
Baynes/motum/bairstow
Bogut/Maric

I think if exum hasn't improved dramatically over the next 2 years, I'd take hard working greenwood. Hardly ever turns the ball over and will give 110 percent. Will have slightly better offensive game in 2 years because he's going to get a lot more minutes at New Mexico.

You would seriously miss Baynes out of one of those line ups?

Are you mad?

That is one crazy team and most entering their primes. Spain could be knocked off as the contenders with their aging lineup.

Greenwood to get more minutes? He has been playing big minutes as a starter! He has been playing facilitator rather than scorer and this season will be expected to score more.

I mean more of an offensive roll for greenwood after losing Bairstow, kirk and Williams. More penetration, more 3 point attempts.

Simmons, maker and Humphries will be draft picks for sure.
Adel, bolden and McVeigh I think are outside chances.

I'm surprised Stephen holt, delly's stMary's teammate got picked up by the cavs. I thought Kendall Williams, bairstows team mate at the Lobos would have been a better choice.

Thon Maker is a must for Rio olympics.

Maker won't be at rio I don't think... Most likely... He will only be 19. baynes, Bairstow and motum will have a lot of nba xp by then. His physical size is the biggest problem at pf.

If he's committed and still The best choice for the position...
2015 u19 world champs. 18 yo
2016 Olympic games - unlikely... But exum made it. Good choice though?
2019 men's World Cup. 22 yo
2020 Olympic games. 23 yo
2023 men's World Cup. 26 yo
2024 Olympic Games. 27 yo
2027 men's World Cup 30 yo
2028 men's olympics 31 yo
.....etc.

I don't agree that Maker is a must for Rio. We shouldn't just hand out a position based on potential. If he develops quickly and bulks up then maybe consider him but for me he is a 2019 addition.
Agree with the core of the team but if I was Newley or Goulding I would look over my shoulder with Drmic a chance to make team.

Aren't National Team selections handed out based on HoopsMixTapes?

Maker isn't a must for Rio, but he is a must for the national program. Lock him in for U 19s and keep his rights.

Thon Maker at 19 years of age would be better than
most all of the Aussie forwards mentioned above, except Simons.
So why not pick him?
If you are good enough, you are old enough. He is pontentialy better than
Durant and Garnet. would you pick a 19 year old Durant or Garnet before
any Aussie PF or SF? ... of course.

Its assuming A LOT to say he is going to be better than Durant or Garnett. Pretty sure his field goal percentage is in the low 30's and he weighs a molecule more than a nose hair. Potential, sure, but he is going to only be 19, and the other forwards you propose he will be 'better than' will have had a few years in the NBA and Europe.

I said it in another thread but it really depends on how the youngsters develop. Two years is a long time. Will Exum be a solid NBA player by then? Will Simmons and Maker continue to develop and increase the hype? Will Bolden/Adel/White be in the mix? A lot of question marks. These players are still young but a few would have to be pushing for spots with their talents, even at they young ages. Also you have to wonder if Bogut will be healthy.

My lineups is a mix of a desired lineup and an expected one.

C - Bogut/Baynes
PF - Motum/Bairstow/Maker
Sf - Simmons/Ingles/Broekhoff
Sg - Mills/Goulding
Pg - Exum/Delly

Have the players been taught how to choke with a bit of subtlety yet? Maybe grab an instructional video from the Euros.
