Waikato Pistons withdraw from NZ NBL

The 2015 National Basketball League will consist of just eight teams after the Waikato Pistons today confirmed they will not be entering a team this season.

With the 2015 draw set to be released within the next week, the lack of a Waikato team in the national league is a tough blow for the league as a whole, leaving just the Supercity Rangers squad to cater to the massive array of talent in the Auckland and Waikato regions.

The news follows the Otago Nuggets pulling out of the 2015 season due to financial issues, a dehabiliting blow to a league which had a high-quality season in 2014 with 10 squads involved.

Absolutely horrible management.

They sat out 2012..came back in 2013 with a cheap and young roster and their finances were good.

Then out of nowhere they spent incredibly large in 2014 with Pero Cameron, Casey Frank, Corin Henry, Abercrombie etc.

And what do you know...they can't commit because its not a "sustainable business model".

The Waikato basketball community are grilling them for this (rightfully so).
