24 Minute Halves

Could the NBL work with two 24 minute halves with say 4 timeouts per team per half?

The way college basketball flows more freely would surely be more appealing to non-NBL fans and the stats would be more reflective of 48 minute games which make more sense when cpmparing different leagues. The games would essentially last as long as a game currently is with more basketball.

It might as well be 2 x 20 minute halves at the moment as the quarter time break is practically a time out and they don't change ends.

I reckon they should play 3 x 15s.

What about 8 5 minute eighths? No timeouts

Breaks and timeouts might seem annoying, but they are good for:

- TV ads
- replays
- commentator discussion beyond play-by-play
- (not for me) cheer leaders

4 X 12 minutes. Keep it simple. Real ball fans want the real thing.

Personally I did prefer it when the quarters and breaks were longer.

You mean fans of the NBA want the same in the NBL.

I'm very much for the reintroduction of 4 x 12s also.

I don't think we achieved anything from going to 4 x 10? Telecasts generally have a huge gap to fill on two hour slots and it hasn't affected the way we play at worlds.

Nbl would be doing itself a big favour reverting back to 12 minute qtrs in my opinion.

"The way college basketball flows more freely would surely be more appealing to non-NBL fans"

Does it actually flow more though?

College basketball is terribly stop-start. its absolutely horrible.

Teams have 4 full timeouts and 2 30-sec timeouts per game.

There are also 8 media timeouts (4 in each half). - 16-, 12-, 8-, 4-

That's a total of 20 possible timeouts!

Its way way worse than the standard NBL 4 x 10 min quarters.

Mr bEn,

Go back to 12 minute quarters, and you have trouble fitting within the 2 hour time slot.

Paul's call out above is right. I am a little tired of ignorant or arrogant (its one or the other) comments like the anon above.

I am not in favour of 24 minute halves, college ball would benefit from 4x10 minute quarters IMHO... NBA is 4x12 minutes but they dictate terms, NBL doesn't!
